Day 20: Breakfast

Nov 27, 2006 14:08

Scar felt as if he'd passed out as soon as he'd gotten to his bed due to the admittedly strong fatigue and pain that having a badly injured arm tended to cause a person to feel, even one as conditioned and battle-worn as the stern-faced Ishbalan. He woke up feeling rested but regretful, and his fear that he'd wasted a Nightshift ripe with the ( Read more... )

Another night over with, but Junior still felt weird about suddenly waking up in his bed as if it was all just a very lucid dream.

He still wanted to ask Sora about that blue-haired man, and maybe about the others who had shown up quick enough to lose the redhead in their talk. Even though it didn't concern him at all, Junior still felt like he should have known what the conversation was about. Probably caused by that "un-admirable past time" that Ziggy got onto him about.

Then again, with the way the other boy had looked distressed, it might not be a good idea to pursue the topic so quickly. Those other people had to have been patients, as well, so...maybe he could give him some time to get used to it? Who knew...

In the meantime, though, the psycho on the intercom came on and decided to give them the before-breakfast speech. So today they'd get to sit down for "therapy"? Great. Time to start thinking of ways to fool around and generally make life hard for whatever asshole he got ( ... )

When Luffy opened his eyes and discovered it was morning, he couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed. After all, he and Zoro had important things to take care of, like finding knives, so the cool Roy guy could make a sword for them! How could they make any progress when stupid stuff came up and made it harder for them? This was the second time he had woken up in bed while on his way to the kitchens, and Luffy didn't like it one bit. Even the thought of breakfast did little to soothe the pirate as the Cat Lady led him to the cafeteria ( ... )

"Morning, Luffy," Junior replied, waving a bit before stuffing a strip of bacon in his mouth. It was good to see that the other boy had made it through the night; he remembered seeing on that bulletin board that some patients had seen others die recently. Who knew when the next one would be?

The redhead took a moment to chew the meat up so it wouldn't choke him as it went down, but swallowed quickly. "How was your night?" he asked Luffy. "Find anything that you needed?"

Zoro went quietly to the cafeteria. He was too busy paying attention to his surroundings, remembering every turn. They hadn't made it to the cafeteria last night -- next time, Zoro was going to make sure they did.

He got his food and stopped, looking for Luffy. Sure enough, he was already sitting with someone (how did Luffy make friends so easily?). Striding over, Zoro made a gruff sort of noise in the back of his throat announcing his arrival, then slipped down onto the bench beside Luffy. He gave the kid Luffy was sitting with a small look.

"Hi," he murmured.

Any hopes that Hikaru might have had that his surreal nighttime experience had only been a dream thoroughly and completely dashed when he was woken--still in that tiny bed, still wearing those awful clothes, still very much without Kaoru, and arm still magically healed--by an overzealous nurse with an annoyingly high-pitched voice who seemed oddly intent upon calling him "Andrew" or "Mister Hill," and refused to answer his questions about where Kaoru was and how much the Host Club was paying her for this ruse (he offered to double it if she'd give him something useful). She did mention, rather cryptically, that James was just down the hall and that he'd see him at breakfast, but Hikaru had pretty much stopped listening to her at that point.

Several minutes later, he was frogmarched into the cafeteria by the now harried-looking nurse and an orderly who looked more like a linebacker in American football than anything else. It was as sterile-looking as the rest of what he'd seen, but at least it smelled inviting. Given the sheer ( ... )

‘I wonder if we can request a get paint job for this place,’ Yazoo thought to himself with a raised eyebrow as he stepped out into the hall and was met by even more white walls. The floor tiles, despite being almost blinding to the eyes, were cool under Yazoo’s feet as he followed his nurse down the hallway and joined everyone else who was currently making the journey to breakfast ( ... )

"Like you're even worth the effort!" Yuffie shouted, only to find herself suddenly sitting up in bed, her flashlight still in her hand. There was a voice prattling on over some intercom overhead.

What?...

Had she...been dreaming all this time? And what about having woken up before? A dream within a dream, maybe? "This is too weird..." she muttered, shoving her flashlight under her bed. The lights were on now, she didn't need it.

Instead, she slid her legs over the edge of the bed and glared down at her once again clean floor. "I know you were covered with clothes and sheets last time I left..." Or had that even happened?... So.. had she been dreaming of a place she'd yet to see but would soon wake up in? And what was this talk about doctors and patients?... Just what was this place ( ... )

Well, that had certainly been...random.

One second he'd been chatting it up with two cute girls, and the next, he'd woken up in this damned room again to the voice of that annoying...whoever he was. Listening in a little closer this time, it became clear what this place was. A nuthouse. He was in a nuthouse. Just as that disturbing knowledge settled into his head, a bright eyed nurse came into his room, calling him "Daniel Wright".

According to her, he was very confused (and ignored him when he'd joked that he'd known that his whole life) and needed to get better. She'd never heard of Sylvarant, Tethe'alla, or angels. Her lame excuse for his Cruxis Crystal was it was a part of a cult he'd fallen into that fed his delusions. Zelos couldn't help but grin. That was the first truthful statement she'd made since she'd entered the room ( ... )

Cutie?

A bit bewildered, Yuffie looked up at the sound of the voice. It was odd enough to wake up in a place like this... even odder to be hit on in a place like this... And by a sorta feminine man with pink hair, nonetheless. Cloud had nothing on this guy... Not even with the dress. Still, the attention wasn't something Yuffie was about to pass up.

"Hey!" she chimed back with a smirk, already in a better mood than when she'd 'woken up'. Flattery could go quite a long way to improve a person's mood, after all. "And just who might you be?"

Sanzo woke with the mother of all headaches. Every muscle in his body achedHe wasn't even allowed to properly absorb just how much agony he was in still when a nurse came for him. It wasn't the same one he'd held up, but that wasn't too surprising. The orderly and the nurse might as well've been attached to the hip, which also wasn't too surprising ( ... )

Having one's leg torn open was a bit of an eye opener, in Darman's humble opinion, especially when you were used to having the said leg normally encased in Katarn class armor. He'd always figured that if he was going to get injured, it would most likely be something suitably horrific such as blowing his head off from a miscalculated charge. Not having his leg ripped to shreds by a cat ( ... )

Sanzo had managed to swallow down a piece of "pancake" when he was joined by a patient he hadn't seen around before. There were several open tables. Did he even look remotely like he wanted company? There were several open tables, so there was a clear choice.

Violet eyes flicked up to study the newcomer from underneath the shield of his fingers.

The man looked older than he was. Maybe it was the weathered-look, as if he'd seen one fight too many. Maybe it was the way he carried himself--

....and why the fuck was he even bothering sizing this other inmate up, as if he was a potential enemy. Sanzo couldn't even think quite straight still, beyond the splitting ache in his head and body ( ... )

That was damn unsettling. One minute he'd been talking with that guy in the hall - Zexion - and the next, he was waking up in the room, except this time it was morning and there was a nice lady in a clean white coat that cheerfully informed him that he was insane, and that his name was actually Kyle ( ... )

Moments before things had changed to a brighter shade, Ichigo's throat had been practically crushed, so that when he awoke to a pleasant new day, his lungs were still completely empty and shriveled. Waking up feeling so completely winded was a brand new experience, at least. Not a pleasant one, though; the kind of experience that leaves you in a cold, dead sweat until you feel your stomach lurch like a lead weight. As his nurse entered the room, hoping to find him resting peacefully, Ichigo shot out of bed like a bullet, his chest heaving in and out while his poor, aching lungs clawed desperately for air ( ... )

Renji stared at Ichigo. What, just 'good morning, let's eat' like there was nothing wrong? It was a good thing he hadn't had a mouth full of food at that moment. He would have choked. As it was, he seriously contemplated choking Ichigo instead.

It was a relief to see someone he knew. Misery loved company. It really was a relief. But something more important instantly sprang to mind.

He set his glass of orange juice down carefully, so he wouldn't drop it. He had to keep his voice low, or else he'd be on his feet, shaking Ichigo like a rag. "Where is she?" he asked. Low volume or no, none of the intensity was lost from that question.

Resting his head in the palm of his hand, Ichigo began the casual process of eating, digging his fork into the soft, warmed pancake batter, then clumsiy guiding the bite into his open mouth. He didn't need to be alert or worried at the moment; no, that was too much of a 'rookie' mistake at the institute. During the day, when there weren't any feral beasts or lumbering powerhouses, he'd relax. Tension would just have to wait until nightfall.

"Where's who?" Ichigo mumbled back, thoughtlessly talking with his mouth somewhat full. "Why don't you just eat? I thought you were always hungry with Hat 'n Clogs."
