Day 28: North Street

Oct 31, 2007 11:08

[From Here]Cloud found his way along what was apparently called North Street. It was just as long as the Main St, but it did not seem as busy. There were less shops here as he walked, but the quietness was nice. He paused to look at the southbound streets as he passed them, taking note of how many there were before he managed to find a street he ( Read more... )

((From here.))

Haku was glad to come upon a fairly empty street. His ribs were aching and he wanted to find a place to rest for a moment. He checked his pulse and frowned at it's pace. Too fast, he was tired? From walking around?

This was ridiculous.

He leaned up against a wall and placed his arms gently over his stomach, closing his eyes.

"Of course people notice me," The Fable folded his arms. "I'm Jack fucking Horner! The most powerful and most well known Fable in existence! They SHOULD notice me and dream that they could ever be on my level!"

Bingo.

"Which is why you are incapable of keeping your head down. You know more than the others give you credit for, and I personally know you have more going for you than others think."

Keep leading him on...

The Giant killer smirked. "Ain't that the truth." He leaned in closer (was that even possible?), almost face to face with Haku. "And wouldn't you want to be on good terms with such a person? If you supply me with an ample amount of smokes..."

Haku did not want this man this close. So he leaned up and forward just a bit more and smiled in a predatory, almost seductive, way.

"But you don't like men to be that close to you, do you?"

Jack continued smirked back. If this little cross dresser wanted to play this way, he'd be sure to make his life hell. He personally hoped the man who had decked him the other day was watching so he could see just how much of a slut his precious Haku was.

"I'm not fucking you, pal. I'm asking you if you mean any of those lovely little words you keep saying about me and, if so, to prove it."

Haku laughed softly and reached up, tapping Jack's nose lightly. "I'm probably the only person around who thinks so highly of you Mr. Horner. But I'm not interested in fucking you either. I don't whore myself any longer. I know you're so disapponted."

"I'm crying on the inside," Jack sneered. "Really."

He pulled back. "If you're not gonna give me anymore smokes, I guess I don't have anymore business with you. Unless you've changed your mind."

Haku smiled and shook his head. "I've told you how to get more from me," he said. "It's up to you now."

Jack rolled his eyes. "I'm not interested in giving him more information. And as one of his agents, I can pretty much bet anything I know and 'confide' in you will go straight to Recluse, can't I?"

He waved Haku away and stood up from the wall. "I may want smokes, but I don't need them that badly."

"What if I swear not to give him any information that you give me?"

Haku was curious now. He would keep any promise given, though he doubted that Jack would believe him.

Jack scoffed. "And how would you even PROVE that you don't tell anyone else?" He pointed an accusing finger. "Oh, yes. The "I didn't tell Recluse, I told someone ELSE who told Recluse" excuse ain't gonna fly with me, bub. I know there are at least two of you working for him."

"If that's what you want, then I can also swear not to tell anyone else who is working for Recluse what you tell me." Haku smiled innocently.

"Despite what you may think of me, I am a man of my word."

Jack wagged a finger. "Ah-ah! I see how you're wording this. I'm no slouch at making false promises myself."

He narrowed his eyes. "You promise not to tell ANYONE and we might have a deal."

Jack would have to test his loyalty, though. If he was anything like Jack, giving his word didn't mean he had to keep it.

Haku smiled. "I could do that." He knew that Jack wouldn't trust him. "What would you like me to do to prove my honesty?"

Jack said nothing for a moment, just looked Haku over. Finally, he said. "I've tipped the staff off that your buddy Recluse is up to no good and has been planning something big for awhile. Oh, and that he had more than enough pilfered and dangerous toys."

There really was nothing more to say.
