Nearly as soon as the doors unlocked, Yohji pulled out the pack of cigarettes and the matches. Ignoring his roommate and any protests he might have, the assassin placed one of them between his lips and lit it up with practiced motions. He took a drag on it and closed his eyes, almost in bliss, before releasing the smoke and letting it drift to the ( Read more... )

[From here.]

He was honestly going to go get drunk in a place like this. It didn't really strike him until he was outside Yohji's door. He couldn't even pretend it had something to do with getting out or forging alliances or even pilfering some some alcohol for weapons. He was pretty sure he could ask easily while they were sober without the assassin batting an eyelash at him.

He just wanted to loosen up for a while. Did that mean this place was really getting to him, little by little, making him compliant? Cliff didn't know. He wasn't really in a fighting mood right now, that was for sure.

Who've I been kidding? I'm no soldier. When it comes down to it, I'm just another guy.

He didn't know why he was smiling either. He knocked the door before opening it, conscious of the fact that Yohji would have a roommate too. "Hey, are you decent in there?"

Yohji ignored the flailing of his roomate when he lit up. It was his room too, and he really needed the nicotine right now. He wasn't going to stop smoking just because some new guy thought he had a clue about what was going on. How irritating.

He lay back on his bed until his heard a knock on the door and Cliff's familiar voice calling out. "Come in!" he replied, grinning slightly. At least it should be a relaxing night.

Cliff opened the door. He smelled the cigarette smoke before he saw Yohji; it was pretty strong after only the institutes's antiseptic smell for so long. Cliff wasn't a big fan of cigarettes, but it was like taking a step back in time.

He moved further into the room and took a seat on Yohji's bed. Or his roommate's. He didn't really care which.

"Sorry, forgot the cookies." Cliff said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I know, I know, it's tragic. We'll just have to make do, huh?"

Yohji chuckled softly and smiled at his friend before stubbing the cigarette end out on the wall and dropping it onto the half finished plate of food. He'd savoured this one. No sense going through the quickly and wasting them when he didn't know when he'd be able to get another pack anytime soon.

"I guess we'll just have to go with the milk then," he replied laughingly and moved over so he could pull the bottle out from underneath the mattress. "Stolen from the dear doctors."
