Day 27: Intercom, Dawn

Sep 19, 2007 01:54

"Goooood morning, patients!" The Head Doctor's voice said cheerily over the speakers across the Institute. He seemed to be in a particularly good mood, humming as he paged through the topics he had to cover in today's morning announcement. "How are you all on this fine day? Good? Good ( Read more... )

Urahara had work to do, and putting Kurosaki's soft-boiled psyche at ease was only half of it. As he watched the three boys depart into the Garganta between the human world and Hueco Mundo, the shopkeeper divided his attention between them, their hidden friends, and what the future might have held, what he had to do to make the amends towards the world that he could never seem to wholly fulfill ( ... )

Kisuke-san was there, holding her hand. His hands were so big around hers, comforting and warm. It was just what she needed then, when the bright light of Tessai-san's magic illuminated the tears on her face, when the hole in her torso made it so hard to breathe. Those warm, comforting hands. Ururu could fall asleep thanks to that warmth, just that tiny bit somehow making the pain fade, and the darkness that overtook her less frightening ( ... )

The first thing that Scar realized was that something wasn't quite right. Perhaps it had something to do with the odd surface he was lying on, or the alien thing draped over his form, or perhaps the rather odd position he found himself lying in. Last time he had checked, his limbs were not supposed to bend that way. He subconsciously rolled over into a more comfortable position. Something he was a little more familiar with.

In any case, something was terribly off.

His suspicions were only confirmed once he opened his eyes and stared up at something that certainly wasn't anywhere in the cave he fell asleep in. What he saw wasn't part of the cave within Pride Rock, which is what he should have been seeing, but something else altogether. Something blinding white, and as far as Scar knew there wasn't a single white cave on the entire Savannah.

Which brought him to the obvious conclusion he was somewhere else. But where? And even better, how?But this wasn't everything. There was something else, something strangely related to his form ( ... )

"You really don't remember, do you Mr. Irons?" she replied cheerfully, as if she was telling him the weather was great outside. "Come with me, you can have breakfast and meet the other patients!" She placed a hand on her hip.

Was this person simply ignorant?! He nearly growled while gritting his teeth, but held back. "Just answer my question!" he attempted. "What happened to me?!"

"You have been submitted here by your loved ones." she answered, this time more strictly. "Now, please come with me. If you don't, we might need to be a little more forceful." She offered Scar a warning glance ( ... )

When she actually felt the harsh caress of the morning's rays against her face along with the sound of voices echoing in her thoughts as she woke, Saber could scarcely believe the reality of it all. Cold, simple white walls and plain, alien furniture came to greet her as her aquamarine eyes focused on the small, sterile room in which she lay. The faint smells of a peaceful forest at noon did not greet her, nor did the chirping of animals or the weight of Sir Bedivere's concerned, mournful stare. The Servant froze for but a moment, dozens of thoughts skirting through her mind as her brow creased in confusion, the only outward sign of her inner turmoil ( ... )

A normal person would have felt alarmed or at the very least uneasy to be waking up in a strange place, shaken awake by a nurse who called them by the wrong name. Saïx did not. Part of this was because he was accustomed to feeling next to nothing at all; part of it was that he was bemused, but intrigued(and, to such extent as a Nobody could be, grateful), to have woken up, period.

He should be dead; there was absolutely no doubt in his mind as to that. When he'd first woken up as a Nobody, years ago, he'd come to the same unsettling conclusion and had been just as unfazed by the fact that he distinctly recalled dying as he was now. Well, actually, in this newest instance, he didn't know if dying was truly the proper term. What Nobodies did couldn't really be called 'living'. Destroyed might be more appropriate, or perhaps broken; one did not kill a shell, one smashed it ( ... )
