Sai had followed him all the way, both of his own hands free thanks to the way he'd created his makeshift bag. He had no idea of Sasuke's plans, or where he was heading. He was simply a follower, eyes taking in every detail he passed in the hopes that there would be something to provide just one more clue about his location.
Sasuke was a pretty simple person to follow, too. Decisive and straightforward. Not too mention he doubted sincerely that he would be led into a trap by him. He didn't seem the type.
He glanced over in the direction the boy pointed and nodded in return.
It was definitely quiet enough for Sasuke to ask some of the other questions he'd had for Sai. The dead silence that had occured before Sasuke had met the dark-haired girl in the sports field or the blonde near the experiments room was absent, and none of the non-human monsters had proved particularly difficult yet.
Nonetheless, he kept a ready grip on his sword as he turned to Sai.
Pitching his voice just loud enough for Sai to hear from where he was a few steps behind Sasuke, he asked, "How long have you been on Team 7?"
"Team 7?" Sai blinked, staring at Sasuke with a blank expression before his face broke into a smile. "Oh, you mean with Naruto and Sakura." He kept his voice low also, checking the halls out of the corners of his eyes as he continued.
"You recall our last meeting, I'm sure? I had joined for the purpose of that mission. So just a couple days before." He paused, thinking over whether or not the next bit of information was worth mentioning to him and apparently deciding it was. "I... requested to stay on their squad after that."
Did they call it something else these days, then? Funny, Sasuke had thought that all genin teams went by numbers. Unless Naruto and Sakura had both passed the Chuunin Exams.
Without him. Not that Sasuke cared. He questioned this Sai character out of necessity, because he doubted that there would be significant useful work accomplished when he approached those two for a possible alliance.
"As an external observer, then, what did you think of their ability?" Sai's request to stay made no ripples with Sasuke; the reasons seemed obvious enough. If this new team worked well together, it would only be more convenient for all involved.
Strong teamwork might make it a bit more difficult to direct them -- Naruto would definitely complain, even if Sai seemed to be rational enough to know when to follow orders.
Seeing as how the advantage was always in higher ground, going upstairs was not a walk in the park. Cliff kept on alert.
They'd come through a different flight to get to the chapel if he remembered properly. Man, what he wouldn't give for communicator. He was shit at map-making, and sooner or later he was going to forget something important.
Kurama moved silently behind Cliff, years of practice put into the art of moving without a sound. He kept the bat resting on his shoulder, the perfect height to swing at anything that would think to jump out at them.
He kept a close watch on their surroundings, committing them to memory to be recorded at a later time in his journal. For the most part, the first floor was complete now, save for the contents of the rooms in the office hallway, along with the closed door they had passed upon reaching the stairs.
Upon reaching a height to see over the landing of the second floor, Kurama scanned the hallway before them. There didn't seem to be anything menacing. Yet. Or anything interesting. Save for a hallway off to the right, barely visible from this distance in the dimness.
Ken lagged toward the back of the group, falling in step with Yohji easily. "Sure you're okay?" It could have been referring to when Ken punched him, or something else. Whatever Yohji wanted to take it for. Even if he didn't answer, Ken just felt that it had to be asked.
This place was already getting on Ken's nerves, and he'd only been here a few hours. Great record, there.
Yohji looked up sharply when Ken spoke, a little surprised. He must've been really lost in thought to not notice him dropping back. Yeah, great job at watching the rear, Kudoh. Just. Fucking. Fantastic.
He forced a smile and nodded at his friend, hoping that if he treated the matter casually, then it would be left alone. "'course I am. Little thing like that won't get me down."
Dias didn't stop dragging Ashton until they were well inside the building and possibly lost, in the shadow of a stairwell, and even then he kept an arm around the smaller man's shoulders, not about to let him even think about running back there. He'd had some time to think himself, though, and he'd come to the reluctant conclusion that Ashton's reaction hadn't been as unexpected as he'd thought. If the man really was enamored with him...and Dias had mentioned on the bulletin board, however much he'd played it down, what Pyramid Head had done to him. While the idea of someone avenging him was a rather foreign concept, Dias supposed if anyone would want to, it would be Ashton.
That didn't make it any more intelligent a move, however. "That thing would kill you," he hissed to Ashton, even as he strained to hear if it - or anything else that might have heard their abrupt and awkward entry into the building - might be coming after them.
Dias' sudden movement had caught Ashton by surprise, even as he'd been preparing himself for the monster to begin charging at them, and he'd let himself be dragged back, angry as he was at Pyramid Head
( ... )
Well, Dias' suspicions had been confirmed about how Ashton felt regarding Pyramid Head, at least...although that Ashton seemed more angry about Dias' memories being violated than his person (between the sword and the tongue-thing) was unexpected. In a way, it was kind of touching that Ashton was upset over something that abstract, over memories that were important not happy, but important to Dias himself but not much practical value to Ashton at all
( ... )
"I- I know that, Dias," Ashton said. "I know I couldn't win against that thing, especially after what it did to you. But, but still, my emotions took over, and I probably would have gotten hurt if you hadn't been there to drag me away. So.. thanks
