"I- I know that, Dias," Ashton said. "I know I couldn't win against that thing, especially after what it did to you. But, but still, my emotions took over, and I probably would have gotten hurt if you hadn't been there to drag me away. So.. thanks."

Ashton probably would have been more riled up about the entire matter of Pyramid Head impaling Dias with his own sword if he hadn't already noticed the strange rate of healing Landel's seemed to have. The brunet was still angry, of course - angrier at a monster than he had been in a long time, insofar that the Ten Wise Men didn't count as monsters. The fast healing would make someone like Claude reckless, more prone to pursuing unnecessary battles. Ashton wasn't at risk for such sudden recklessness, but knowing Dias wasn't in as much pain as he should technically be in from such a recent wound was a relief.

Emotions, however, could be funny things, and generally took longer to heal.

Luckily for Dias, though, Ashton's hand wandered back to his lap as suddenly as it had come. He'd been struck by another attack of self-consciousness, and tended to fidget in his lap at such times. There's nothing wrong with wanting something, Dias' words repeated in his head. Sure, it had been taken out of context, but Ashton felt heartened a little bit when he thought of how it applied to his own situation. Perhaps Dias didn't mind that Ashton felt the way he did.

Maybe it was just taking time. Maybe this was just Dias' way of growing closer. Maybe. At least he could hope. Dias had been made cold by the same memories that Ashton had been trying to defend. Lust (the mother?) had warned him about going after this type of guy. Yeah, it was hard. Maybe Ashton was masochistic, but he couldn't stop pursuing him now. He had a goal! He'd just have to think positively about the whole thing! And the process of chasing after Dias was going to be half the fun.

Smiling slightly, he closed his eyes. Ashton could make the best out of his situation, learn to love the burden he'd been given.

"Y'know, I decided I'm not going to forget," he ended up saying at great length, but didn't elaborate. Who knew if Dias would press the statement?
