Now, this was what he was talking about! It was a pretty bothersome enemy, and as irate at the way things were going Masaru was, this was the way he liked it. It would be boring if it were too easy, right? And the way Luke sounded when he told him to keep going after it, he must have been pretty fired up too.
"Get out here, jerk!"
Masaru still had no idea that Luke was actually running away from a fight and not towards one.
At the moment, Luke was just desperate to get away. His arms burned, his head hurt, his stomach hurt, and his eyes were burning as well. Everything was burning or aching! This just wasn't his night! So he just followed Masaru, making it the top of the stairs and catching up with the younger boy.
"Is it... Is it up here?" Luke gasped, meaning if the cloudy thing had followed them.
Luke had no idea Masaru was actually trying to find it, not flee from it.
....Where was it? What did that thing think it was doing, pulling something dirty like that and turning tail before they could do anything about it?! That thing was going to regret running away from Japan's number one street-fighter!
"I still can't really see for crap, but I don't s-" he was interrupted by some strong coughing. Augh, that damn spray. Couldn't that guy have fought like a man instead of using some cheap trick?
"...Anyway, since he's not in here anymore, we should keep going!"
He was definitely to find that cloud-monster and kick its ass.
There was no giggling and the scent of pepper wasn't as strong, so Luke could take that as a safe sign. Well, he was glad Masaru would rather move forward than go back down and try to fight it. Maybe Masaru had more sense than Luke gave him credit for.
Still oblivious to Masaru's intentions, and finally blinking away the last of the pepper, Luke looked around the new scenery. There was some interesting things he noticed right away: a railed off area that seemed to look down on the first floor and a chapel that was located across the railed divide.
"Hey, that railed area. Maybe we can get a good look of the first floor if we look down from it," Luke suggested. It was better than nothing, he guessed... who knew, maybe it overlooked the Sun Room or something!
Not that he would know, having never seen the actual room before.
As the boys reached the stairwell and began to go down the steps, Luke realized that they both had forgotten something. Not that he intended to stop, since they obviously both made up their mind about their next destination, but it seemed like something worth mentioning.
Just in case.
"Hey, Masaru. What if that monster we met earlier is still here?"
"Who cares?" Masaru responded. "We don't have time for that guy! If you want to get him back, we can always come kick his ass later. But for now, we have think about the people down there!"
Obviously, he had the wrong idea about Luke's concerns. Without pausing, he made his way to the second set of stairs.
Rushing silently past the giggling creature and the two who fought, he could feel his eyes burning slightly from the pepper spray in the stairwell. Thankfully, it was only a mild irritation at this point, as they were far enough away from the source.
Without pausing, he moved with his team towards the hallway Renji had marked on the map.
Haruhi gave a quick pan of light across the hallway with her flashlight before she emerged from the stairwell. She looked down the hallway and towards the various paths branching off it.
"So, where do we try first?" She asked, looking behind at Utena.
Utena looked from side to side slowly... each direction seemed as likely as the others to contain the objects they sought. On what BASIS should she make a decision...? Well, she was right-handed, so that favored right... but, that was stupid. Left? No... that had seemed to be a dead end on the previous floor, so it would probably be one now. Which only left... "Straight ahead. I've got a good feeling about it." Which she did, after thinking about it... at least, as good of a feeling as she'd had since the night began.
She walked ahead, on the off-chance there was a monster waiting for them. She could distract it, while Haruhi escaped... IF she would do that. It seemed more likely that she would try and hug the beastie... but, Utena intended to do her best to protect her new companion.

Ran reached the top of the stairs, pausing to rub her eyes as something stung them. Pepper? It wasn't too bad though. Didn't stop her seeing.
She kept moving, heading out into the corridor towards one of the blank spaces on the map.
