[From

His need to be in charge often battled with his own logical sense of self-preservation. Before the accident, the former had almost always won out, coupled with some urge to

Yeah, yeah. Complain about it all you want up here, DC, but I don't see you heading back any time soon. You're just a Grade A whiner. Seemed particularly ridiculous of him to be so negative when there were a grand total of zero other people occupying the kitchen. Looked like Scott hadn't been that late after all ( ... )

The kitchen was empty; were they the first ones to come through? Niikura crept through the room, glancing back now and then to check and make sure that Shiina and Mike were right behind him. It really wasn't a competition to see who got there first, but it did kind of ruin the mystique of the moment when there were other people there. Kind of like accidentally stumbling upon another tour group. That just killed the buzz.
He aimed his flashlight at the door and frowned as he took in the busted knob. So they weren't the first ones to make it into the basement. But...how had these mystery others gotten in here in the first place? The cafeteria...was there another entrance? Ah, stupid question since they were all in the same boat anyway. Niikura glanced back. "Way's clear, it looks like. Someone else's done the dirty work for us this time."

Mike could handle it with what he had now, but he wouldn't mind having a knife on him. If there was something they needed to cut through, his bats weren't going to do it. ... Bats. Ha. It felt weird--he hadn't really thought of Casey too much in years, besides seeing his memorial far too often and Don making the realization he was dead. It felt weird to be using one of his weapons of choice, now. All he needed was some hockey sticks.
The guy might've been Raph's best friend, but Mike still found himself missing him. He grew on you after a while, like hair in embarrassing places that humans never wanted to talk about. Casey had just been that sort of guy.

"I think I'm good," Niikura said, holding up his sword. "Don't wanna overload myself or anything." Because honestly, where on his person could he afford to put another blade? He shrugged. "But if ya wanna pick somethin' out, Mike-san, I won't stop ya."
He paused as another group went by. The basement sure was popular with people tonight, despite all those doom-and-gloom warnings he'd gotten from people.

The faint smell of food had Gamzee considering stopping to grab something again, but there wasn't much need. Plus, he only had two hands! he's left his pillowcase behind this time. He had plenty already, anyway, and their meals had improved too. It was a shame, but it looked like they'd just be passing through that night.
Now where were they going from here? There were a few doors, but he was pretty sure most, if not all, just led to more food. Which one had the special tile...?

Still, with as little as he knew of the situation, Seishin remained silent as he listened, nodding to indicate that he understood. As Silvestri-san had said, it was the only clue there was, so perhaps this basement would prove to be worth its apparent risk.
In the mean time, they passed through the Sun Room into the cafeteria, and from there he followed Gamzee-kun into the kitchen. Their route puzzled him; after all, why hid the basement near the kitchen? Though the area was dark, there didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary.
In front of them there were three doors, but as he was unfamiliar with the route he paused, content with merely following the others passively.
