Nightshift 60: West Wing, South Hall 1-A

S.T was navigating by a fingertip on the wall and the slight breeze of a functioning HVAC system. The halls were dark again. Completely empty, too. He was out early. And he was still thinking.

Something so fallible, he'd said. So that talk about a device had been true? Freaky. Maybe he really wasn't human. Replaced by a machine ( Read more... )

More specifically, Castiel wanted to go through the front door and try to head down the road toward Doyleton. He'd been there last night, but had only gotten a glimpse of the town after dark before morning had caught up with him. He realized that the chances of making his way down there without Gabriel around to take him in a matter of seconds were slim, but...

Well, if anyone might be capable of it, he and Dean would. That was what he tried to tell himself, anyway. They weren't the worst team.

Of course, Dean as he was now wasn't exactly used to him, but Castiel's hope was that he could compensate for that. He started to lead them toward the main hallway. "Can I assume that you're just as capable of picking a lock now as you were when I met you?" Which was technically in Dean's future, but Castiel wasn't going to get caught up in the logistics. It seemed that that had only confused Dean when he'd brought it up in the past.

Dean was right behind Castiel. Well, when he said "right behind", he really just meant close enough to see him in the dark but far enough away to keep some personal space AKA the thing Castiel didn't seem to understand the meaning of if he left him to doing his own thing.

He shot the angel a look. "You even got to ask? I'm not suddenly gonna go rusty."

He got maybe he hasn't gone on a real hunt for awhile and it killed him to think of the Impala and her arsenal just...off somewhere, but it was pretty much like riding a bicycle, the whole gig thing. Lock-pick a door, kick it down, know where to shank a ghoul if one came knocking. Did make him wonder how much Castiel knew or just how close he'd been dogging him in the future. Must've been something, the whole introductions thing. Dean couldn't see Future Him being any more open to angels and Heaven than he'd been a month ago.

Castiel had only been double-checking, as it would be pointless to take them to a door that they couldn't get through, but he simply nodded in reply to Dean as he kept walking. Perhaps he could even learn a few more things about how to get the lock open when he watched Dean work. Orihara had taught him some already, but he had to admit he wasn't that interested in continuing lessons with the young man. He couldn't rely on Dean to always be around to take care of it, though, and so he realized he might have to work with Orihara again at some point.

He could think more about that later. For now, Dean was here, and so getting outside would hopefully be a simple matter.

No longer having any reason to hesitate, Castiel took a left as they reached the end of the hall.

Badd slowed his pace as he went out into the larger hall. He was eager to get to Byrne but it wasn't worth getting the attention of the less savory patients by appearing to be in a hurry.

No monsters as of yet. No obvious hallucinations either. If the visions kicked in tonight he'd need to find some way of getting Byrne to notify him...or for him just to get out of the general area. His days-old fears were starting to settle in again but Badd forced them away. They would get through this together or it wouldn't be worth getting through at all.

[From here.]The Scarecrow fumbled through his things as he walked, trying to occupy his hands so that his mind had less time to think and ponder over all that plagued it these days. He'd never had so much to think and worry over in Oz; perhaps human brains only had a certain capacity, and once they were full, that was all they could ever hold. His already seemed infinitely less capable than the one the Wizard had granted him, but he had to take into consideration that his had also been tampered with during his sleep study. It was hard for someone unfamiliar with human forms to know what was normal and what wasn't ( ... )

Despite the fact there were no alarms blaring or anything weird like that, Chipp was still rather cautious as he led Luke through the hallways, if only because he actually had a firsthand look at a lot of the monsters. Well, a firsthand blurry after-image look due to him speeding through the hallways. Damn, he missed that.

Well, as long as there were no stupid birds chasing after them. After sighting none of the feathery beasts, Chipp motioned for Luke to come forward and made his way down to the "big hallway".

Jesse steadied his own flashlight and retraced his steps, throwing hard glances at every little noise he heard along the way. He stopped at the end of the empty hall to check if Woody was still with him, tossing a semi-rhetorical question at his current companion before he'd even craned his neck all the way.

"How far could he have gone anyway? Shit, I don't see anyone..."

Woody followed after Jesse with a skeptical look. Let's bounce? That was a new one. On the other hand, he hadn't really been able to keep up with changing trends outside of what he and the other toys had dug up on the internet during the long, dull days spent in Andy's room once he'd quit playing with them.

More importantly, though, he didn't like the implication that Mack could be dead. Of course, Woody wasn't stupid, and he knew the possibility was there. The thought almost made his knees shake as he waved his flashlight around the hall, half-expecting to find some kind of mangled body or puddles of blood. Thankfully, the hallway was clean and bare ( ... )
