Night 59: Entry Room

((From here.))A quick sweep with his flashlight revealed no other patients or lifeforms in the immediate area, but their arrival could quickly change that if they didn't exert caution. It was unfortunate that his presence would put the doctor in extra danger. However, as a Starfleet officer, McCoy had received enough training to adequately handle ( Read more... )

Relegated to flashlight duty. He knew it for what it was, a sign Spock expected trouble and wanted his hands free. McCoy took the light without complaint, adjusting his grip and swept the light around. So far, so good, but he knew better than to actually say it out loud. Spock would have a field day labeling every reason why not, and even without Spock's input, every time anyone said that, they got proven horribly wrong. Unless fate was a mind-reader, McCoy wasn't going to tempt her.

"Spock, you might have a future yet as a counselor. I feel much better you put it that way," he said. The doctor indicated the door with the light. He'd found it locked before, but maybe Spock could brute force it open. There was something mildly ironic about asking Spock, one of the very last people to use brute-anything to do this.

"Think you can break it open?"

Upon hearing that remark, Spock raised an eyebrow at McCoy. "I was hardly taking your emotions into account," the Vulcan pointed out. There was little else to be said about that, however, so he turned his full attention on the door in front of them.

"Unless the force field is fortifying it somehow, then breaking it should be possible," he confirmed. With how much McCoy complained about having to use force to open passages throughout the facility, Spock believed he'd be pleased if he could use his own strength to accomplish the task alone.

After resting his hand on the handle, Spock tested his weight against it. Like many of the doors upstairs, this one would also likely give way under enough pressure. He positioned his shoulder, careful with his aim, and then neatly threw it against the door. Apparently, the lock was weaker than normal against his full strength, as the door flew open after only one attempt.

Straightening, he glanced over at McCoy. It was an unfortunate, clumsy method, but they were free to pass now.

Slamming the door shut behind them, the Scarecrow leaned against it, trying to hold his breath and listen for the click-clickers to go away. He felt his heart leap into his throat as they passed the door, the telltale noise of their feet on the floor mere inches from where he was standing, with only the door to keep them from him. He leapt in surprise as one of their pincers hit the frame, jarring it against his back; however, it seemed they couldn't get though. After a moment, the quiet clicking of their feet continued, their presence in the hallway still apparent ( ... )

Seishin hadn't been given the time to respond when the other man grabbed his wrist and pulled him into an adjacent room, slamming the door shut behind them. The scorpions that had followed them attempted to gain entrance, but the former priest already knew they likely wouldn't be able to open the door so easily. He took the moment to gather his energy again, though his limbs were still shaking and he still felt somewhat dizzy. It only made sense that his body would object so much, considering he hadn't eaten anything at all the past few days.

Seishin had been about to answer that scorpions most likely wouldn't be able to enter when Frank suddenly panicked. He blinked in surprise, his features becoming concerned as he glanced uncertainly around the room. It appeared to be empty, but how much could be judged by mere appearances ( ... )

The Scarecrow nodded, remembering the door from his night with Sergeant Carter in that very room- it had been locked at that time. He shuddered, remembering the event, and their encounter with the Burning Man. The hand on his arm rubbed it, the thought of the fire paralyzing him in some way, keeping his legs from moving despite his urge to run from the room without hesitation. He scanned the area with his flashlight cautiously. Though he didn't see anything, his knees continued to shake beneath him.

He scooted along the wall, keeping out of the center of the room until he reached the door on the opposite side. He reached for the handle, only to find the door was already ajar. "It's open!" he called, surprise coloring his voice.

Without even looking outside first, he stepped across the threshold, wanting to distance himself from that particular room as quickly as possible.
