Nightshift 24: M 61-70 Hallway

Too goddamn tired, huh? Kimbley smirked up at the intercom sealed in the corner of the room and continued rifling through his drawer. Under his pillow he'd found the flashlight; in here, there were pens, a radio, a journal ... they were actually giving them supplies here. Clearly, this was not a real mental hospital ... or prison. More of hell than ( Read more... )

Nobody had explained to Elfangor what would happen at night, so he was confused to say the least. He did see his roommate grab the flashlight and followed suit. He stepped from the room and looked around cautiously.

Honestly what kind of prison unlocked its doors. Not that Elfangor minded, if he hadn't have been so distracted by food he would have started to panic slightly. He didn't like being locked up.

HK-47 hadn't wasted any time in setting out for the night. Citan took the opportunity to explore the room, going over it thoroughly. Supplies were limited, though there were supplies to be had. A hand held light and a transmitter of some sorts were the two that seemed to promise the most use. The room was well secured, the only exit the door that led to what appeared to be a hallway.

Light in hand, Citan headed into the hall. A simple corridor lined with doors, the overhead lights currently off. There seemed to be no power at all for the moment.

The corridor was not empty. HK-47 was long gone, but Citan noticed a younger-looking man a bit down the hallway. He approached, expression friendly and calm.

"Rather an odd place, hmm?" he began, in way of greeting.

Elfangor turned his head to see the man who was speaking to him. He nodded. "Yes. Odd," he repeated the sound. Saying 'odd' made an interesting sensation in his mouth, but now was not the time to marvel over it. Elfangor's back straighted from the slightly slouch of looking around. "What is going on?" he asked, risking it. He couldn't trust this person, but it was probably better not to be so hostile. It was dark and human eyes were very bad for seeing in the dark. His fingers clutched the flashlight.

Tatsumi recognized the voice as that of the man who announced the shift changes during the day, just as Tsuzuki had said. And he did indeed sound different, though much more frustrated than mocking or sadistic. Tired frustration; Tatsumi certainly could sympathize with that emotion, despite the man holding them all captive ( ... )

As soon as the doors unlocked, HK stepped out into the hall. He held the flashlight he had found hidden on his sleeping pallet in one hand, and a few writing utensils were attached to his forearm with the elastic loop they had been wrapped in before. The little box that looked like an ancient handheld comm was in his pocket. It had a thin strap for a handle, and might be useful for bludgeoning something, if nothing else.

His flashlight was off, even though it was near pitch dark. His infra-red vision extended far enough to give him a little thermal imaging. The walls were just barely visible, but the few meatbags in the hallway were lit with color that human eyes would never be able to see.

HK moved quietly down the corridor. He had no stealth field generator or any other camouflage gear, but he could still move silently.

...It was just that he was so squishy now that was the real problem.

[from here]

While Okita waited for his eyes to adjust to the dark, he listened to the people talking in the hallway. No one he recognized, and no one that sounded like a threat - that was a good start. Motioning to Guy he started down the hallway, keeping an even pace that neither hurried nor lagged.

"So, Guy-san, what do you do in your world?" he asked. He was going to ask another question when the radios snapped on, causing him to stop mid-stride. So the Doctor wasn't the only one who could use the little boxes... Okita would have laughed if the warning hadn't been there. "It seems we're caught in the midst of a feud."

Guy trailed carefully after Okita, glancing at the others lingering in the hallway curiously. It seemed like everyone opted to be out and about at night as opposed to staying in their rooms. That made sense, though - everyone wanted out. And yet he knew how easily some people were willing to lay down and give up. It was almost reassuring to see how many were dedicated to brave the supposed dangers of night.

He opened his mouth to answer and then closed it again when the radio spit out a message. The man speaking was obviously different from whoever spoke through the intercom, but...

"What is talking about?" he asked with a tilt of his head, placing a hand on his hip. It seemed like he was pretty mad at someone, but it was hard to pin a guess on who when he had only been here for a few hours.

Besides, the actual radio was the most interesting part.

Okita shrugged slightly as he started down the hall again. He had as little knowledge about the fight between the radio man and the Head Doctor as Guy did. "I'm afraid you know as much as I do. At least the little box gave us some information, yes? It looks like tonight will be a dangerous one."

Beyond that, Okita wasn't interested in the feud between the Radio and the Doctor. Engaging in the fights of others was strictly against Shinsengumi policy - and he had other things to worry about. While he knew how to fight unarmed, he highly disliked the idea of being caught without a weapon. Motioning to Guy, he quickly passed through the main doors into the hallway.
