Night 58: Main Hallway, 1-West

Sesshoumaru had not been in the building for nearly long enough to really know it, and his knowledge had not been expanded yesterday as it might otherwise have been, because of the poisons that had been fed into his system - poisons that somehow worked, which had been a disconcerting and unpleasant experience. In the end, though, all ( Read more... )

Brook's humming dimmed for the moment that he came into the large hallway and turned his head around. He'd seen fights happening in the place before and had, when passing the place alone, tried to be a little more tactful in passing through because of it. Tonight though, he did not see or hear anything resembling the fierceness of a battle. Only the shadows of patients going and coming passed by with barely a word. They all had their places to be, and their people to meet. Brook too had his mission of finding someone, so he turned leftward to see as far as he could down into the hallway.

Nothing scary about a big, dark hallway, was there? His humming returned as he took a step in that direction.

Rita darted around the corner and tore through the hallway, her heart pounding against her chest. She was in such a desperate rush that she was only barely paying attention to her surroundings - just enough to keep from bumping into anything.

Or so she thought, but it wasn't long before she plowed right into another patient. With the momentum of her running, she hadn't been able to slow down, and so she hit the stranger hard, losing her own balance in the process. She stumbled to the side, flailing her arms, and somehow she managed to jerk her body back into an upright position without falling over all the way.

Flustered and angry, she shot a glare at the man she'd run into and barked, "Hey!! Watch where you're going, idiot!"

As much as Brook dreaded the attack of a monster in the hallways and kept himself prepared for such an occurrence, there was no preparation for something that didn't have any malicious intent towards him. Anything ahead of him would have been easily seen, and anything behind he had expected to sense before it got the jump on him. But a little girl rushing right into him? Nope, hadn't expected that one ( ... )

To her surprise, the man actually apologized. Unfortunately for him, not even that was enough to soothe the temper of Rita Mordio once she was angry. "Hmph! Whatever." She pulled at the straps of her backpack, straightening it so that it wouldn't throw her off-balance.

"I'm in a hurry to get to the Medical Wing. Don't get in my way!" she snapped. Rita felt sick, and while it was possible that it was the anxiety making her feel that way, she couldn't shake the fear that it could be the drug taking effect on her body. She shuddered involuntarily as she turned to face east, where the Medical Wing was. There had to be something there to help her...

Brook could tell that the young miss certainly had an attitude, just like another young lady he knew, but attributed that to her admittance that she was in a hurry. In this place, that could have meant any number of things, so whether or not he was supposed to apologize mattered little. If she was in a rush, then he shouldn't have gotten in her way.

Pushing himself back to standing, Brook rubbed at his face with one hand while dusting himself off with the other. "I won't, I won't, but you should be a bit more cautious, Miss. Suppose you had run into something that had wanted you for dinner instead? I doubt it would have been as understanding!" he warned somewhat jokingly as he bent back to grab his cane - another causality of the collision. "Though I am heading that way myself. If you do crash into anything along the way, I'll be sure to lend my assistance."

Brook would have never allowed a woman to face the things here alone, especially when that woman was so young!

Suppose she had run into something that would try to eat her? "If that happened, I'd blast it to smithereens," Rita retorted without a moment's hesitation. Even with her limited powers, she could at least set it on fire. That ought to be enough to deter most stupid beasts.

So that lanky guy was headed for the Medical Wing, too? Huh. Rita wondered briefly what he hoped to find, but she could hardly spare the time to think about it, much less ask. She sneered at the insinuation that she was likely to crash into anything else, but quickly turned back to face her destination.

"Fine. Come if you want, just don't slow me down." With that, she started moving.
