Night 57: Main Hallway, 1-Center

[from here]From here, Vino could go several ways. The frequented Sun Room was the most obvious option, though he could also choose to either go into one of the side doors or continue onward down the hall. If he were an architect, Vino thought, where would he put a radio broadcast room in an insane asylum ( Read more... )

[From here.]It was at this point that the crowd thinned out, which led Zack to believe that he was on the right track. While he hadn't found anything that interesting yet, he was still moving away from the patient blocks, which was sadly a triumph for him at this point. There was no point in dwelling on his past failures, though ( ... )

[ From here.]

Retracing her steps out to the main hallway that she'd been escorted down a short while earlier, it wasn't long before Rose came out into the large hallway that seemed to run the length of the building. She paused here, glancing to either side for a moment as she pointed her flashlight in either direction, trying to get her bearings. The voice over the intercom had said the medical wing was on the east side of the building, which meant off to her left.

Shining her flashlight in that direction momentarily illuminated a familiar face, and she quickly lowered her flashlight so she wouldn't blind him.

"Zack?"

Apparently he had paused for a little too long, since before Zack could get himself moving again he noticed a flashlight beam coming in from the side -- and then his name was spoken.

While he could have ignored it, he just wasn't that type of person. He could imagine Sephiroth -- before Nibelheim, that is -- doing such a thing, but he was Zack and even if he'd already made plans for the night, he wasn't going to brush off someone who was talking to him.

So he turned her, clutching his short sword in his right hand and the flashlight in his left. "Rose," he greeted. He remembered how he'd almost asked her to come along when they'd spoken before, how he'd told her that she should make sure to travel with someone at night. It looked like she hadn't listened. Not that he could judge, considering what he was doing.

This might be as simple as exchanging pleasantries and then heading their separate ways, and it might not. "Where were you headed?" The answer to that question would probably decide which it was.

Rose approached him with a crooked smile, keeping her flashlight beam trained on the floor. She was very aware of what was going on in the hall around them, however, since it was the first time she'd ventured this far out after dark and she'd yet to see these horrible monsters everyone talked about. She didn't want to be caught unawares.

At his question, she grinned a bit, pointing her finger upwards. "It sounded like an interesting challenge they gave us tonight," Rose admitted, lifting her shoulders in a slight shrug. "I thought I'd check it out. Since I planned on exploring anyways, I thought I might as well start there. Sounded like it was something different. I take it they don't do things like this every night?"

Well then. This was someone he knew (sort of, at least) who was going to the same place that he was and had approached him out of the blue. Zack knew that he couldn't just avoid her now. It would be rude, and more than that, they were probably almost there. Rose had gotten this far on her own despite being new to this place, and while that wasn't a huge accomplishment, it did count for something ( ... )
