Having a portable source of light handy with him while wandering dark corridors was actually rather helpful, even if normally, Vino wouldn't have bothered with it

Locke didn't stop to talk to any of the people in his hallway, choosing instead to head right for the main hallway, but, now that he was here, he had no clue which way to head.
He could either go the way he'd gone last night and see what, if anything, had changed, or he could go in a new direction and see where that took him.
Which way to go...?

Edgar turned the corner sharply, leaving his light off for now. He'd gotten a later start than intended, having debated whether he'd test his tools or magic this night. The latter won in the end, as it had a physical toll on him- he needed to master his condition as quickly as possible, lest he continue to be a hindrance to any group he traveled with. A sigh escaped him as he was reminded of how he ought to apologize to Ryuuzaki and Lunge for practically wasting the night.
In the darkness, Edgar passed a figure he recognized, though it took a second to realize it. He was already two steps away before he stopped and turned, raising an eyebrow in surprise. Surely enough, his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. "Locke!" A grin graced him in spite of the heat and the raspy quality of his voice. "And just where have you been hiding? I know you're not much for letters, but you could at least let me know you're still alive every once in a while."

"Edgar! You're here too...I don't know if I should be happy 'bout that, but I am." After twenty-four hours with no sign of his friends, Locke had begun to feel very lost and alone in this place.
Locke took a step closer, trying to see his friend better in the dark; something didn't seem right, not only what he said but how he said it. "Are you okay? You don't sound very good."

Edgar's brow furrowed. Like Locke didn't remember ever being at the institute. If that was true, then he had been 'released' after all. Edgar ran a hand through his hair as his grin turned wry, knowing he'd seen this play out before: at that time, it was Celes doing the asking and the king himself who didn't remember. That was one difference, but what was the other?
"It's a long story," Edgar replied quickly to cut off his initial question, putting up a hand in reassurance. "Tell me, how long have you been here?"

Although he didn't have much of a choice where he was supposed to go during the day, thanks to whatever schedule he and the other patients were put to, Locke still couldn't help but mentally berate himself for not paying more attention to those who were around this place as well.

"A weapon would be great, I feel a little exposed without something. What's with this place, anyway? It's not normal, obviously, but beyond the fact that there're things you don't want to come across on your own at night and military during the day, I don't know much more than that."
Which, to be honest, bothered him. He was the guy that was supposed to find things out and he had barely found anything out at all. He hoped Edgar could at least tell him something new. Which reminded him-
"Also, where do you find those things?" He gestured to the flashlight. "I looked in the desk and under the bed, didn't seem to be anywhere you'd expect."

"The flashlight? Mine was under my pillow," he noted, looking behind him to the hallway before turning back. "It seems every patient gets some sort of a welcome package with this, a radio, and a few other necessities. Unless the military has decided to remove them, you should find yours there. We could go back and get it. Probably should go back and get it, rather. I can explain more about this place on the way."

Edgar was a strong person and Locke didn't doubt he could handle himself, obviously he'd been here much longer than the treasure hunter had, but, that didn't mean someone to watch his back would be a bad thing; not to mention it Locke didn't really know where he was going anyway.

But that was for later. "Where I was going can wait. Your light should come first. Then we can run a quick errand I have that will keep us in the relative safety of the patient blocks, then we'll find a weapon for you." They needed to get moving- as far as Edgar knew, no hallway was truly safe.
With that, he headed down the hallway Locke indicated.

"An acquaintance of mine has left something for me to pick up in her room," Edgar continued as they passed through the hallway. He walked quickly, knowing the night ended too often without warning- if they were to visit Anise's room, then try to make it to the shed in the courtyard, they had a lot of ground to cover.
At least the walk would give them time to catch up. Even if Locke had remembered his time at the institute, there would have been a lot to discuss. Edgar counted himself fortunate to be given a second chance with at least one of his comrades.

Even if their current situation was dark and dangerous, Locke couldn't help but tease, if at the very least, for the familiarity of it. Even if he'd only been here for a day, he'd been worried about seeing his friends again the more he realized just how stuck they all were here.
"Mind if I ask what this thing is?"

And whether there was a reason for that or not, Edgar couldn't tell. He'd always just suspected that was the way Landel played.
