This part of the hall was completely abandoned by now, which was really of no surprise to Zack. He paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder at Cloud. "The female block is right through that door," he said, pointing off to the left. It was more or less identical to where they had just been, so he doubted that Cloud would forget now that he'd been shown how to get here. It meant he could go searching for Tifa or Yuffie on his own if needed.
Speaking of which, Zack hadn't seen Yuffie in some time, but once again, he refused to believe that she was gone. She'd been here longer than the rest of them combined, it seemed like.
Tifa wasn't here either, obviously, which meant that it was either time to give up or go straight to her room. Zack looked Cloud over. "Should we head inside?"
Clearly, something had been on his friend's mind after all; Cloud just hadn't expected it to be something like this. It caught him totally off guard, hit him like a blow to the stomach, and his steps faltered to a momentary stop. It was like the time he'd first heard of Zack being alive all over again, except this time the shock was more raw, left his vocal chords refusing to work as his mind staggered under the knowledge that Aerith was alive, she was hereAnd although his first instinctive reaction to that was denial, to react the same way he'd done before, there was a part of him that had known if Zack was here, alive, then there was always every chance that Aerith could be as well.
