DAY 55: Sun Room [2nd Shift]

Mar 13, 2011 03:36

[ from here ]Either she was the only unlucky person to experience a freezing shower, or she just hadn't built up the tolerance for it that the more seasoned patients had. Whichever it was, she was the first person into the sun room and while normally she wouldn't mind that, the soldiers were majorly creepy and she was kind of hoping for some kind ( Read more... )

[from here]The soldier told her that she could go anywhere she wanted, but at the moment, Anise just wanted to be around people, so she decided to stay in the Sun Room. She was happy to have had a chance to check in with her friends over the bulletin board, but what she really wanted was to see some familiar faces in person ( ... )

Mopping up the damn floor sure hadn't worked any wonders on Alaric's head, which was still pounding even as he cradled it in one hand, following the next soldier in an almost unidentifiable lineup. He hadn't gotten the chance to break off into the nearest bathroom to take a look at it, but there was a definite lump that was hard and tender at the same time. He'd made his first mistake by asking for a bag of ice. Apparently new patients weren't the ones getting the most glamorous treatment.

The guy couldn't even say a simple no. It was like a petulant teenager, slowly turning his head back to glare at him before turning back around ( ... )

Anise looked up in surprise and sat up straight when someone sat down next to her without any greeting. He looked like he had a headache, so maybe he was just in a hurry to get off his feet. When the man turned to stare at her, however, she realized they'd met before, and when he gave that accusatory greeting, Anise's eyes widened with realization.

Right, this was Rick, the new guy she met yesterday. He hadn't been eating at lunch, so Anise assured him the food was fine, and then...

...

Ah!!The girl's eyes grew even wider the moment it all came together, and her body stiffened. It had taken a few extra seconds to connect the events from yesterday to events that took place when her memory was gone, but she remembered now that the guy on the radio said there was something weird about the food... and then all that weird stuff happened to Anise and her friends. Did something happen to Rick, too? Ack... it was almost like it was her fault ( ... )

Nothing big, you know. I happen to have a habit of dying so it was just another night.

At least she was acting like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar. He didn't want to think someone her age was a good actor, but he knew better than to trust kids immediately just because they were kids. Sure, most were inherently good, but...

Okay, Alaric could admit he was maybe being really paranoid about a - what, thirteen, fourteen year old? - girl trying to intentionally poison him, if that's what that crap last night had been. Considering he could jump and run and not fall down or break his bed today (well, maybe less on the running and jumping since his head was killing him), Alaric was going to go with thinking it was a one-time deal. He wasn't the smoothest guy out there, but he was by no means clumsy. Last night had been ridiculous.

"Bad luck," he said, sighing. His gaze dropped from her to the shoes he was wearing now, which he could have definitely used last night. "I mean, a lot. I wouldn't have thought anything of it but ( ... )

[From here.]Once Sora had gotten changed and was in the middle of putting his beret back on, he'd decided to take a chance to ask one of the soldiers for some clips. The fact that his hair was wet at the moment meant that the hat was bound to behave a bit better, but that wasn't going to last for long; he was going to need those clips or he'd be constantly pushing it back up into place, which was no fun ( ... )

Okay, so things had officially gone from bad to worse. Big time. The uniforms, the weird metal tags around their necks, the complete take-over by those soldiers -- Woody was already starting to miss that loony bin set-up from before. At least they hadn't made people scrub the floor while forcing the ones who really deserved the punishment watch. That was just...sick. He'd never seen anyone do something like that before, much less actually been part of it. Having to stand while other people were punished for something he'd done wasn't something he wanted to repeat anytime soon.

His soldier wasn't nearly as patient with him as his old nurse, either. As much as she'd gotten on his nerves sometimes, he hadn't wanted her replaced with someone stricter. That was exactly what they didn't need! But more than anything, he just wanted out of here, and the recent changes made that need ten times stronger.

At least they weren't forcing him outside during this shift. Although they'd given him a leather jacket with C. Wheeler written in ( ... )

It didn't take long for someone to join him, and it turned out to be a familiar face. Not as familiar as some, but Sora remembered Woody rather clearly. He'd seemed like a good person with the way he'd been worrying about Buzz, after all. Sora hoped that he'd helped him get a little more used to his new body, although they hadn't even been allowed to eat yet today. He felt kind of hungry himself, but he'd just have to put off those thoughts until lunch. They would have to feed them then, right?

He waved at the man as he walked up, smiling when the hat was tilted at him. He wished he could do that without his beret falling off, but that was besides the point ( ... )

Woody sat down onto the sofa beside Sora once he got the go-ahead, his long legs sprawling out in front of him. He still wasn't quite used to sitting on a piece of furniture that was actually designed with his body size in mind, but that was the least of his worries these days. Still, he couldn't help but smile a little when Sora asked after him. While there was no way he'd confide in someone so young about his problems, it was kind of touching to see that Sora was so concerned about other people even though he was in as much trouble as everybody else.

"Yeah," Woody said with a nod. "Yeah, I found him. We've met up a few times since I last talked to you, actually." As for eating, he couldn't help but snort at that. It was strange to hear a kid reminding him that he needed to take care of himself, but it was also true that Sora had more experience than him in being an actual person. "And I've been trying to eat more, but these new guys haven't been making it easy." The other patients weren't, either, come to think of it. ( ... )

Peter left the first shift feeling guilty that he hadn't been able to help with the cleaning effort and worried for the newcomer who he'd just met. Firo had definitely started to believe some of his words by the end of their conversation, which was encouraging. Peter felt that he'd explained as much as he could without completely losing the kid, and chances were that he'd have more explained to him as the day went by. He'd done his best ( ... )

[from here]His spikes were still drying so outside didn't seem a great option. To his surprise, the soldiers were okay with letting him into the Sun Room for a while and Neku took full advantage and checked the bulletin first, his stomach sinking a little when he saw that there was a post from the creepy guy with the ballpoint pen from last night. As if he didn't already feel like crap for trying to Erase half the patients, he had crazy murder-you-with-a-pen-in-the-face man looking to ask him a few more questions (in other words, rearrange his face until he talked, right ( ... )

Of all the people Peter might have guessed would come to talk to him, this had to be the least likely. He glanced up when he saw the kid from the night before approaching. Even though he knew that he was responsible for the pain he was in right now, all Peter felt as he watched him walk over was pity. He knew exactly what it felt like to be used by this place, after all ( ... )

The guy didn't freak out, but from someone who'd taken a severe beating last night without so much as flinching, Neku didn't really expect it. As for forgiveness... Neku couldn't say he was looking for it, couldn't say he felt like he deserved it, but the guy was surprisingly understanding. For the handful of words Neku had gotten out, this guy had already pretty much summed everything else up. He hadn't wanted to hurt anyone, but what's done was done.

"It's still pretty messed up," he sighed. Even if the guy had been in the same position before, well... all the more reason for him to understand that it sucked. And that just letting something like that go was way harder than it sounded.

"Anyway," he tried, "I thought I could make it up to you, but they took my Psychs this morning too." Even the pins Mr. H had made were gone. He hadn't expected to keep the brand-name clothing or much else, but for everything to be gone? Couldn't he keep his headphones? Were they that heartless?

Well. Nothing like an ear-splitting whistle to help mend a headache and complete a beautiful morning of cleaning up other people's messes, he supposed.... Threats of going deaf aside, his morning could have gone worse. He'd managed to get a better grasp of the situation at the very least, and speaking with Nigredo made the stupid chore he'd been assigned slightly less annoying than it would have been otherwise ( ... )

Roxas did not give her a lasting cure for her foul mood. Not entirely. Claire was less skittish and in better spirits than she had been when she woke up, but the moment she left his company the scowl came back on her face. It was too hard to stay cheery in the light of all this. That wasn't who she was anymore.

A different soldier than before came to collect her, ushering her towards the courtyard and eying her lack of a beret. Claire didn't think she had ever been there, but she wasn't ready to explore it just yet.

"Wait!" Thin fingers wove into the fabric of his sleeve. He turned to look at her, not an ounce of shock in his eyes. Fortunately, he did nothing to shake her off. "I need to tell someone something. On the board." She looked hastily towards the Sun Room. He was dragging her the opposite direction. "I need to write some notes-"

"Be quick," he said abruptly. Then he turned on his heel and led the way.

Claire wasted no time. She pounced upon the first piece of paper she could find and posted a note looking for Goku. Not ( ... )

...Gave her a knife? Normally, something like that would be extremely alarming, but gathering some sense of weaponry in this place was necessary for self-defense, unfortunately. Something that had taken him a while to accept. But the fact that a little girl like Rika would think to hand out something like that was surprising enough on it's own. Let alone a knife. Then again, he didn't know the circumstances. There was probably more to the story. In any case, the point was Rika was one of the first people she'd met here. And considering the way she said it, she didn't seem like she'd held any ill opinion of the girl ( ... )

It was good to see Lightning was fine and everything, even with all the stuff that happened yesterday. But that was one good swimming in a huuuge pile of bad. All of that, though, was one big freaking mess that he wasn't even going to bother trying to sort through. Not like standing around mulling over everything that was happening was going to change anything, right? No, this was the time to act. This was the time to do something. Unfortunately, he had no idea what that something was. And though that wasn't anything that would stop him under normal conditions, it was a different matter when there were soldiers waving guns all over the place and looking like they'd be more than happy to shoot you full of holes just for looking at them funny.

So right now Snow was stuck. Just standing around and doing nothing was killing him. He wanted to do something, but he couldn't. Maybe he had to be careful, but he didn't know how to be. He just... didn't know what to do! It left him anxious and frustrated, full of energy and nothing to do with ( ... )

[from here]Ema entered the Sun Room and beelined toward the bulletin board, anxious to see what was there waiting for her. Unsurprisingly, there were already several posts about the previous night and what had happened within several groups; apparently, Ema and Lana weren't the only ones who had problems. Someone had also posted a call for the identities of recently-released patients, to which Ema glumly replied with Agatha's name and room number. She realized as she wrote the she never even learned the other girl's real last name. Some friend she had turned out to be ( ... )

Yeaaah, looked like he was right. Barely a minute looking this damn thing over, and he was already bored with it. It was mostly just people checking in on each other or friends talking about something or people wanting to meet up later or whatever the hell. It wasn't exactly anything he had to pay attention to. Not like he was nosy or anything. And since he'd already seen Light was okay, there wasn't anyone he needed to write a note to either. So the whole thing was pretty pointless right then. Welp. Least he killed a whole minute without thinking about the armed guards or the stupid uniform ( ... )

Oh, he noticed that she was staring at her. Ema started a little when he looked down and gave her a smile; she was busted. Despite her mood--which, while improved, was far from pleasant--she gave him a bit of a smile back. Despite his size, he seemed friendly enough. As far as being angry with him about breakfast, Ema had been so withdrawn during the cleaning that she hadn't even bothered to see who was excluded from scrubbing duty. He could have been right in front of her and she hadn't noticed.

In response to his comment, Ema tilted her head and gave it a bit of thought. "Scientifically speaking, that's not true. They might have handwriting samples from each of us so they could conduct a handwriting analysis of anything we write on that board. Many police departments have that capability. I'm sure these military people do." Although, she had to admit, it was incredibly tempting to right something insulting and inflammatory about the new regime on the board. And he had a point--surely she wasn't the only one with that ( ... )
