Okay, that's it, Thanksgiving's cancelled . . .

Nov 24, 2010 18:29

. . . Or, rather, my Thanksgiving travel plans are cancelled. For the second day in a row, my flight out has been a no-go (the first time due to weather conditions, this second time due to a mechanical error that couldn't be fixed in time to get me to Boise for my connecting flight). Overflow space on other flights is vanishingly small, thanks to ( Read more... )

Oh that sucks majorly. I'm sorry you can't spend Thanksgiving with your family. Here have a hug.

On a completely unrelated note I have been trolling your Sherlock recs, and um why did no one tell me this fandom was so awesome sooner?

Thanks for the hug! It's disappointing, but everyone's starting to plan for the reschedule already, so that's putting us in a better frame of mind.

RE: Sherlock fandom . . . it *is* awesome -- and you've got a lot of reading to do to catch up! Better get to it! :D

*hugs back* Thanks. But it's good; nothing actually *bad* happened, and we're already starting to plan for the reschedule. :)

I was going to fly out to Massachusetts for Xmas, but we have already rescheduled it. Mom did the rescheduling, and it turns out she booked me for the day after MisCon! Ah well, at least I won't be traveling in the snow and cold and yuck, since I would have to take the bus from here in Butte all the way to Spokane, going over two or three passes, and... yeah, you get the idea. Me no likie. I'll go over the passes in summer, thanks.

So I know how you're feeling, spending a holiday away from the folks, coz I'm in the same boat. Or plane. Or bus. Whatever. :D

Oh, that stinks! It's so sad that your plans for Thanksgiving with your family had to be canceled. The fact that it could have been worse (stuck in another city instead of at home, uncooperative airline) really doesn't diminish the disappointment of this. *hugs*

Well, at least the internet is here to entertain you during your unexpected free time.

Yeah, I expect to be spending rather a lot of time with my ol' pal Internet . . . ;)

Thanks for the hugs. Yeah, there was no actual injury, stranding, loss of finances, etc., so I consider it to be really little more than annoyance at this point. But we're making plans for the reschedule, so that's keeping us positive. :)

Yeah, I try not to travel over the holidays anymore, either, partly because at SeaTac if it's not a Pineapple Express it's a freak snowstorm, and if it's not a freak snowstorm it's fog thick enough to make London proud.

Much sympathy. I'm contemplating the snow predicted for tomorrow and my ice-coated condo complex driveway, and wondering if I'm going to make it the ten miles to my friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner. Guess I'll wait and see what things look like in the morning.

That's a pretty good description of SeaTac during the holidays, yes . . . :P :)

Thanks; we'll be OK, we're staying positive and working on making new plans for the reschedule, which is good. Yeah, I hear ya about even close-range travel. Not appealing with the roads the way they are. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that your Thanksgiving is messed up. I'm in Northern California now with my folks, and seeing the weather reports about Seattle, it's been amazing! I hope you have a good celebration with your adopted family, and then get to have a good one in a few months when you make it back.

Thanks! We'll be okay, though, we're having fun planning the new, rescheduled trip (4th of July, probably).

Where in Northern CA? My folks are in Ashland, OR, which is where I was trying to get . . .

I'm in Healdsburg, California, currently - about an hour and a half north of San Francisco. It's wickedly cold here - for the first time I can remember, it's colder here than where I usually live (Durham, North Carolina).

*googled* Hm, a bit south of my usual State of Jefferson childhood stomping grounds, but still in a pretty part of the state.

Huh -- interesting the cold is getting that far south. Mom says that there hasn't been snow on the ground this early in Southern Oregon in a hundred years (my bro looked it up). And here in North Idaho were at a thrilling 11F and likely to go subzero later tonight (not unheard of, but not usually this early in the year).
