Today Was The Day… - Prologue
As a gentle classical piece played in the restaurant background, Yunho pulled at his tie loosening the knot as he looked at his watch, how long is the toilet queue?!?!
He looked around and undid his collar wondering why it was so hot all of a sudden. Yunho picked up the condensed glass of water and gulped it down. He looked at the glass now empty except for the ice cubes and signalled at a waiter for a refill. He started tapping his finger against the table as he reached his other hand into his jacket pocket and sighed quietly as an object met his fingers. Yunho rolled his shoulders in hope of ridding some of the nervousness and cleared his throat that was now dry again. He drank his fifth glass of water and prayed that he did not need the toilet when the moment came.
“Is everything okay, sir?” a waitress asked as she approached.
His reply came out harsher than he intended as he gave her a curt nod, “Yes.” Seeing the shock appear on her face before she could control it, Yunho hastily added, “Sorry, I’m just nervous.”
“Ah,” the waitress said in understanding and smiled at him, “I’m sure you’ll be fine, sir. However, our restaurant has a strict policy-”
Yunho’s nod cut her off and he fixed his collar and tie before picking his knife up and subtly looking at his reflection in it. He put the knife back down only to end up knocking it onto the floor with his elbow as he turned to look over his shoulder. Yunho gave a curse as he bent down to pick up the knife and place it back on the table.
Calm down! He thought to himself as he closed his eyes and took slow deep breaths before cursing again, stupid collar and tie! They’re too tight on my neck… why did I book at this restaurant? Oh right, it’s a favourite.
“Yunho-ah,” a soft quiet voice from behind startled him and Yunho looked up.
“Did you get lost?” he joked.
The answering awkward laugh made Yunho smile. “No, the queue was long.”
Yunho nodded and subtly took the object out of his pocket as the chair opposite him was occupied before he spoke again. “I have something to say.”
Curious eyes gazed directly at him and Yunho had to look away as he cleared his throat. He took a breath and met the gaze directly. “As you know, we’ve had our ups and down-”
“Are you breaking up with me?” the teasing tone in the soft voice was evident.
“No! I… That is,” Yunho stammered before taking a deep breath and giving up. He knelt down on the floor as he opened the box to reveal a ring. “I love you, and I promise to protect and cherish you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?”
Jaejoong looked down at Yunho in surprise. “Eh?”
