Philosospam

"Wow", I said to myself. Almost a dozen new posts in various philosophy communities.

Er . . . nope. It was the same person basically posting the same thing . . . over and over.

But I do wonder how much the language barrier plays a part in understanding, or not understanding, although in this case many would say it doesn't matter.

philosophy, weird, enigma, psychology, chaos

I used to belong to a few philosophy communities (I was active in philosophy mostly)... but I took them all off my friends list long ago. Calm, rational discussion seems to be a completely foreign concept to most of the members of those communities. Even some of the most intelligent, educated members seem to be the worst troll assholes of the whole group.

I recently checked philosophy on a lark, and this was the very first response to the first post I read.

That is not rational, philosophical debate. It is not at all insightful or helpful to the original poster to say things like:

That's actually the position held by "bug-fucking idiots".

It would be nice to find a community that is both popular (a variety of members with whom to debate) and rational (actual discussion rather than endless flame-wars). Unfortunately, philosophy falls far short of the latter criterion.

Most of the philo communities do seem to be elitest.

Have you looked at abstractthought - seems to be more fringe, but fewer flames.
