TEFL certification

Sometime last week (I think) I finally sent back the stupid piece of paper I've been hanging onto since the beginning of July for my piece of paper that says I'm certified as a reading specialist in the state of PA ( Read more... )

So I assume you would have to be fluent in another language.

Not neccesarily because you would be teaching English...and I know English. It would be the same as if say you took French or Spanish in high school. The teacher is fluent in the language they are teaching. If you're saying though that I'd need to know the language of the population I'd be teaching to, no. I imagine TEFL provides you with a way to teach to anyone.....no matter what their native language is, because chances are not everyone in the room would speak the same language.

hmmm...yes, I suppose your right. Now that I think about it, I know a couple of people who teach English abroad that did not know the native language before they left.
