Kang didn't like being so out of the loop. If Slith were here, he knew his friend would have ferreted out every scrap of information in the damn city, and the bozak was just now realizing how much he relied on others to keep him in the know.

The new clothes that Miwako had provided him with were much more comfortable than what he'd originally had, not to mention warmer, and much less ridiculous. Diego had said that he'd be in Madison Square Garden, and that's where Kang headed with purposeful strides, approaching the table when he got there, "Are you Diego?"

Kang had gone into commander!mode.

Kang leaned back, wings shifting restlessly, "Makes sense. My world doesn't have anywhere near this level of technology, and word would still travel like wildfire. Refugees, calls for aid, that sort of thing."

He frowned slightly, "Magic-users can be found everywhere on Krynn, and it's strange hearing of places where it doesn't exist. I stopped practicing years ago, and thought wrongly, for one of those years, that it had disappeared completely, and it... tore at me." This Diego fellow wasn't so bad, and Kang felt safe admitting that much, though the subject was still a little bit painful.

"Ah. A spokesperson of a sort. I can see how that would make the mole accusations upset you."

"Ha...!" Diego nodded, the smile returned to his face. "I understand. When a man is deprived of his former strength-- perhaps even more painful than what it took to gather that strength in the first place."

This Kang was a good guy. For a lizard dragon man thing. Perhaps Diego would work out a way to ask him politely later, just precisely what he was. "I will admit. There's another reason as well, for both my distaste at the accusations and my involvement in the current circumstances. You could say I'm... quite close to Ms. Fey."

"Quite right," Kang smiled, glad that Diego understood and didn't seem to want to press the magic issue any further.

He paused, idly scratching at the scars on his right hand, "Is she... your mate? Perhaps a close relative?"

Diego laughed again at that, the same smile still frozen in place. "Ha...! Well now, I suppose you could call her my 'mate.' My fiancee." Beneath the visor he was looking away from Kang, idly across the room. "I'd like to ensure her safety, and of course that of the others who were taken."

Kang blinked, a little confused, "Fiancee? Humans and elves use the term wife, is it similar to that?" He smiled himself, thinking of Fonrar, "I understand. I have my own mate, and I worry about her even though I know she's more than capable of taking care of herself."

"A fiancee. Not a wife yet, but meant to be," Diego specified, with a bit of a smug smile. "I know she's strong. But a man can't help his nature to protect. It's perhaps one of our greatest vices-- but a virtue as well."

"Betrothed, I see. It's... well, it's a bit more than that with my kind. Females are still very new, and their numbers are small. My men and I found the first ones, and raised them from hatchlings, so we're very attached to them," Kang admitted.

For once, Diego had literally no idea how to respond to that.

"That's... quite a bit more," he agreed, picking up his coffee cup again and draining it dry. He went to refill it once again, closing his eyes beneath his visor. "Good luck with that."

Diego had a few delicate sips of his new cup of coffee. Godot #31, a mild and comforting blend for the times when your own heart provided more than enough bitterness for the rest of you. "Is there anything else you'd like to know?"

"It's been... well, interesting would be an understatement," Kang smiled to himself.

"Yes, actually. I've seen posts on the network about this 'Birdman' and... Parano. Who in the Abyss are the creepy bastards?"

"Ha...!" Diego lifted the corner of his mouth in a smirk. "You know, honestly? I don't know. But 'creepy' is a good start. They seem the type born to do little else but cause trouble, and if the rumors I hear are true, they're capable of worse."

He cleared his throat. "There was a boy nearly killed and savagely beaten several months ago, along with a whole group of others that nearly died-- and the Birdman was rumored to be the one behind it. It somehow got blown off as rumors. Even a place like this has its secrets, and more than its fair share of demons."

Kang shook his head, scales clicking quietly, "I've met some creepy ones over the years, but these two are a whole new level. I can't even understand what they're saying most of the time, and what I can... gives me the willies."

"There wasn't an investigation into it? That seems a little strange."

Diego took a deep breath and sighed, closing his eyes again beneath the visor. "Many things go uninvestigated. When the world comes crashing down, there's more than a few little thefts in the chaos. The priority in this place is survival and not civilization."

He had a sip of coffee. "That's not to say it's excusable, and not to say people haven't been doing their part. I understand some people have organized patrols. Ms. Brea put together a police station and assembled officers. The supply center is run only by the grace of volunteers. Some people perform under pressure. Others crumble. Suffice to say," he paused, and his smirk faded away into more of a scowl. "More than a few criminals walk unpunished here."

His militaristic background made Kang a little unsettled by that. He preferred order, and rules, and while he understood that the situation was a little unique in Manhattan, it didn't lessen his sudden desire to help rid the city of its anarchy.

"Survival is made far more easy when there are rules and regulations in place," the bozak mused. "Once we find this Brea, I think I will have to meet with her."

"I admire anyone who can take the role of a leader," Diego replied, the lower half of his face having recovered back into neutral. "And I admire those who put their lives on the line for the sake of others. I haven't met Ms. Brea myself, but then again I don't get out much."

"I haven't gotten out much either," Kang said. "I've been spending most of my time with the repairs on St. Patrick's Cathedral. For a couple of days now, I've been toying with the idea of starting up a repair service; there's quite a few damaged buildings that are salvagable."
