((I think you need to add another 'angst' there for Zidane's sake :D))

He stalled long enough. There was a path of dead crabs in Zidane's wake, enough to relax him just a bit... even if he knew it wouldn't last long. But it wasn't fair for him to still be ignoring this conversation. He only hoped that... Dagger wouldn't hate him forever. God he hoped so badly.

He got onto the street and kept an eye out for the cafe until he finally saw it, then his breath caught when he realized she wasn't alone. Oh great, having the conversation with her wasn't bad enough? They had to have an audience?

Zidane tried to school his features to hide his annoyance and stepped into the cafe. He couldnt break at seeing her like this. He swallowed and braced himself tightly. "Hey..."

Music was there to help people, and as a musician it was Raiel's duty to fill a need where he saw it. Garnet was in need of courage, so he played a song for courage. He felt like it wasn't much (not nearly enough, nothing he did could be), but it was something. And, as he stood there, leaning against the wall, playing for her helped him forget his own apprehension about the situation ( ... )

If Garnet had not had her eyes closed, she would have seen him coming. As it was, the halt in the music, and the sound of his voice, were what tipped her off to Zidane's arrival. Her eyes opened, and her thunder heart wanted to leap out through her throat. For a single moment, she forgot why they were here, only that he was there, and oh, she had missed him so...

Raiel's voice caught her attention then, and she turned to him with a nod, and a watered down smile. She would have to thank him later. As he made for the exit, her eyes fell on Zidane once more.

In a normal situation Zidane would have flaunted his tail a bit before Raiel. Instead, Zidane returned the nod silently, internally thankful that the other was leaving. Of course, that meant Dagger was looking his way, and he felt himself start to already shut down.

This was going to be harder than he initially thought.

How to start? He was the one who said they needed to talk. It didn't matter how much he actually didn't want to. Had to be done. Damn. Staving off his nerves, stuffing them behind his back, he took a few small steps awkwardly into the cafe, but still left quite a lot of distance between him and Dagger.

For the first time, his eyes met her own. "You're... been doing alright?" he ventured. Had to start a conversation somewhere; it was as good a place as any.

Raiel was waiting outside. Just like he'd said. He was a couple storefronts away, leaning against the outside of the building, hands shoved in his pockets, gaze distantly directed skyward ( ... )

In all honesty, she didn't hear him calling after her. The only thing she heard was the sound of the blood pounding in her ears and the way her boots sounded against the pavement. Her legs were failing her though; she was too tired for this sort of exertion.

As soon as she felt the hand on her shoulder, she whirled around, eyes clenched, and jerked her shoulder away. She'd wanted to just get away, and he'd followed her? Couldn't he just leave her alone, she'd tried so hard to make a graceful exit!

"Don't follow me, I'm--" And then she stopped suddenly, looking at her pursuer. It was not who she had expected, although they were both blond haired men. But that's where the similarities ended.

Raiel.

He had been expecting that, really. He stepped back, holding his hands up as a sign of surrender. A sign that he wasn't going to touch her if she didn't want him to, that he'd keep his distance. His face was a mix of worry and concern.

He just looked at her, wondering what to say. What could he say? Her face told him exactly what had happened. What did you say to that?

"Are...are you okay?"

Not that. Fucking idiot. He could've kicked himself.

Clearly, Garnet found the question as stupid as he did, because she merely narrowed her eyes at him, her mouth twisting up into something too ugly for her pretty little face. And with that turned away from him, long hair trailing behind her as she began marching away from him.

"Just leave me alone!" she cried, her voice quaking.
