My mum reminded me of the lunar eclipse, and it was a beautifully clear night here, the only downside being the city lights, but the PUC firmly declined to turn them off for me.

Too cold, my hands to shaky generally, and my camera skills too lame to take any good pictures, but here's a blurry shot from mid-eclipse that at least has the colours right ( Read more... )

I got a few blurry shots of my own even with my poor-man's tripod. I may post some.

P.S. Here's an idea for steadying your camera. If you can get a 'shoe' for your camera (that thing that screws into the base), you can tie a 1.5 meter string to it and tie a washer to the loose other end. To steady your camera, simply drop the string on the ground and step on it, tugging up on the string to steady your shot.

I saw that trick on Lifehacker (I think) recently and have a note to remind me to pick up a bolt of the proper dimensions the next time I'm in a hardware store.
