random question about time-type stuff

would you rather be able to travel through time (all the way in any direction), but affect nothing, or have the power to slow/speed/stop time and do whatever with it you want, or the ability to see what would have happened had the past gone a different way? you only get one of the choices, so no mixing and matching, please (although 'none of the ( Read more... )

I am leaning toward #2,
Stop/Slow/Speed-up:

Reasoning:
  • Cons:
    • I have to assume it is within your own span of life, in the context that you age in the time stream as normal. EG Speed up 3 weeks = 1 day, Age 3 weeks. Within this construct you are limited.
  • Pros:
    • The ability to effect change in real time
    • No major effect to the time stream.

The moving forward or back through time could be use full. Moving forward you could see the outcome of a situation and change the details of the present to change the future. Going back you could see what went wrong and when and still use the information in the present to fix/change the situation to some degree.

On the stop slowing speed up: can you slow down so much that you actually start going in reverse?

nope. you can slow down to a complete stop, but not actually go in reverse.

oh well, that would be cool. I think I would choose going back in time and forward in time.

Reasons;

Going back in time: I would go back in time to see my mistake and learn what I would do different from or what could have been done different to change the course of events. I would use this information to examine the current situation and make adjustments as needed.

Going forward in time: I would use this to see the outcomes of choices that are being made. Then from the present I would change events or choices to effect the future. I could then use the forward to see if anything had changed. Almost like reading a "Choose your own Adventure book" where you hold your spot and read ahead to see the outcome, and if you don't like it you choose another path.
