Tonight is a slow night on vampire shift. Oh wait, I'm actually home tonight. I get confused about what day it is. Starting a day on Monday and ending on Tuesday, plus sleeping days, messes up your calendar. I'm awake at 3am, it's the life of the undead even on weekends. After vacation I worked 10 of 11 nights and every night was extremely busy.  ( Read more... )

workplace, movies, up all night

It made me think. You are so right about almost forcing kids to get an education. Even if they never "use" it. You can never take it away from them.

But what made me think was the bit about the Big Lebowski... i've seen it 1½ times, so it must get better, right? It took 2 years before I got to the end of it, but I am open to the fact that my taste is not definite, not really well defined. I look forward to seeing it again.
Ciao!

It's more than an education. When I see the life my sons lead at college, my oldest in Colorado and my young lad in Los Angeles ..... I know I missed a great deal and I hope all young people make better decisions than I did for myself.

My goal as a parent was getting my sons through college and towards a better life.

Do not attempt to watch Lebowski without adult beverages. It will grow on you if you give it a chance.

OMG, I AM SO RELIEVED you're getting back to days, don't ask me why, but it was very upsetting for me! Congratulations.

I know what you mean about decisions made when you're young. I made so many lame turns, I guess that's part of the wisdom of growing older, which I like about 80%, seeing the past more clearly. It's impossible to see the future, though, right?

Now to the Big Lebowski, I appreciate these comments. I know it's a cult classic/favorite and it's on my list but I never want it. People I think are funny like it. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get it this week.

My Netflix queue has many films that never seem to make it to the #1 spot. This is my second Lebowski netflix view. It really is a good movie if you're in the right frame of mind.

I suggest you watch it with your neighbor and his medical mary jane.

And I appreciate your concern about the dastardly night shift.

I had to watch this movie twice before recognizing it as a good film. ogrevi September 27 2010, 15:26:55 UTC
As much as I love the Cohens, that happens to me with many of their films. Lebowski in particular I was disappointed in when it came out, and couldn't understand why everybody liked it so much. It took a couple more views before I started to see things I liked in it, but that was true of Fargo, Barton Fink, and Blood Simple too. It's just the way they are, complex and subtle, and you don't get it all the first time. I loved Raising Arizona from the very first moment of course, and No Country For Old Men and Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? were immediately impressive, but even Raising Arizona was better the more I watched it.

I'm willing to give Lebowski another go based on this post and other things I've heard, ten minutes into Barton Fink, I abandoned it for now, forever. The last three you mention I liked right off, Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? I felt was a movie that spoke to my creative twists and turns, I loved it from the first minute, the music may have had a big part of it for me.

The music in Oh Brother is awesome but not at all what I would normally listen to.

I loved Fargo immediately. Barton Fink?... not so much. I'm not a fan of Raising Arizona either.

No Country and Oh Brother are on the list of DVDs I may buy some day.
