Tonight is a slow night on vampire shift. Oh wait, I'm actually home tonight. I get confused about what day it is. Starting a day on Monday and ending on Tuesday, plus sleeping days, messes up your calendar. I'm awake at 3am, it's the life of the undead even on weekends. After vacation I worked 10 of 11 nights and every night was extremely busy. The night after Isaak I worked a 13.8 hour shift. I'll spare you the long night-into-day story. It's a mechanical tale.
I'm watching The Big Lebowski as I type in the wee hours. There are so many funny scenes. I love the Julianne Moore character and Ben Gazzara as Jackie Treehorn. I had to watch this movie twice before recognizing it as a good film.
This is a weekend of errands. We started today, actually 4pm when I got out of bed.....with the big box errand. I may have bought five gallons of Makers Mark. This is why I love Costco. You can make jokes at checkout to cover for your bad habit. "This place makes me want to drink.", and the clerks and boxers chuckle in agreement. At Costco there is no bagging, only boxing. And we have a frozen yogurt on the way out .... our treat for being a good boy and girl in the big store.
Hermanos has a 20 year-old step son wandering aimlessly. He was a good student in high school but thought he was too smart for college.....A.K.A.... He needed a job to pay for his girlfriend. I was young once. I remember thinking with the wrong head. The kid needs to get back in school.
In two weeks he starts at Monkeytech working vampire with step daddy Hermanos. He'll learn a trade but I will badger him to get back in school every chance I get. He's not my son. It's not my business. I just hate seeing a smart kid skipping higher education. I know what it's like to look back with regret on decisions made as a very young man.
Yes, I said they'll be working vampire.
The first time I saw Lebowski John Goodman's character annoyed me so much I did not enjoy the film. Now I see why he's so great........ but John Tuturro is better. The film has a strong cast it deserves credit for. Did I mention the dude Jeff Bridges or Philip Seymour Hoffman? I told ya, great cast.
Knowing my graveyard gig is coming to a close is a relief. The Bossman thanked me for doing it for six months. I had a hard time saying "You're welcome." but I managed to stumble through it. I can assure you this, after I get back on days I'll find something to complain about ...... and nights probably won't seem so bad. When I do this please provide a cyber-bitch-slap with a firm hand. I'll understand and be grateful once the sting leaves my cheek.
Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare appear in another off center cult classic. Ya know. Buscemi is a master at acting with an expressive face. He speaks without words. The google eyed character actor started HBO's Boardwalk Empire this week. He's great as Nucky.
So I'm still on vampire hours, up all night until 10/11. I'm blogging under the influnece of liquid and herbal stimuli. It's really hard pouring a shot of bourbon from a five gallon pale. I need a bigger funnel. I bet they sell them at Costco.
I can control when I'll be awake and when I will sleep. I prefer to be among the living. I look forward to breakfast starting my day rather than ending it. It's 4:30 in the morning and I want breakfast, followed by seven hours sleep, not. a, life.
Come to think of it ....... I know what it's like to look back on bad decisions made as an old man too. It really doesn't matter which head I think with.
