Grim Fandango! Definitely a very underrated game that turned out to be really awesome. I'd almost go so far to say I like it more than Psychonauts, but they're different sorts of games and it's rather biased because Adventure gaming is pretty much my favourite genre. Flim Noir with kindaliving calaveras and bucketloads of intrigue and genre-savy lampshading? So much fun! Grim Fandango is probably the game I wish would be re-released with spiffy graphics, although there would always be the concern that the plotline (which is pretty much perfect imo) would be skewed. Beyond Good and Evil is actually getting its re-release, of course, but its graphics are also already so pretty (whereas Grim Fandango could use an update).
TLDR: Where are you currently up to in Grim Fandango?
Hurray for Grim Fandango! Most certainly one of the best "unknown" games I've ever played. Though the graphics are dated I think it still really works, it's got that dark simple beauty to it. Don't even get me started on Sprouting. What a visually beautiful way to die.... again. Although I'm still mad at it for making me beat my head against the walls trying to figure out how to solve puzzles but on the other hand that's soully my fault.
I think so, too. It's funny; the "underrated" game I picked got the most amount of comments I've ever gotten on one LJ entry! Well, at least it's got its fans, which it certainly deserves. I have to wonder if a lot of older adventure games were TRYING to kill its players with frustration?
Nothing wrong with dated graphics. Theres such a nostalgic charm to aged games. I really miss the colorful, side scrollers. Wish more games of late would pay homage to that style.

That would be neat, but for now, I'll stick to playing this version. You're right; the story is best untouched, as are the characters.
I think I'm on Year 2; I just got the dog tags from the sailor-guy getting the tattoo, and I locked the snooty waiter in the wine cabinet.
