Nick had spotted his otherwise elusive roomie doing this and has been watching with a bit of confusion; the casting of the spells actually CLARIFIES the situation for him.

I get it now. Trying to see how your abilities function in this strange new place, huh?

That's a good thing though, isn't it? I mean, especially with the "budget cuts" nonsense. It'd have sucked if you guys ended up, I don't know, looking like you were casting poorly generated special effects instead of proper spells.
