Photo - Fire in the Sky.....Sunrise over Oberlin, Oho

Sep 27, 2009 07:04

As I pulled into my job site on Friday morning, the sky looked like it was afire, like a scene from a sci-fi movie. I wish I'd had a wider angle lens, because it extended even beyond straight overhead well toward the west, and far to the north and south. At least 70% of the sky was involved. It only lasted around 2 or 3 minutes, but it was one of ( Read more... )

That is amazing! What an incredibly beautiful shot. It makes me feel humble...

What kind of camera do you use?

Thanks! Well, this was taken with my happy little Samsung L200 point-n-shoot from Walmart. A camera so spectacular yet small that I take it everywhere I go in a cell-phone case hooked on my dashboard and/or belt.

For this pic, I give all credit to the sky...even tho it looks awesome, it was far more breathtaking in person.

While in Florida last week, I bought my dream camera...a Nikon D40 digital SLR. I'll have to work a few Sundays to try to pay for it, but I'm deeply in love with it...so much so that I'm afraid to take it out on routine workdays. That's what the little Samsung is still for...thus this photo.

(I took the pics in two previous posts with the new Nikon...the Air Force Memorial and the little lizard on the historical marker.)

Thanks!!

I am getting a new camera in a week or so and was going to seek out your thoughts on it. :) You've already helped some though. :P I've done lots of research and am leaning heavily towards the Nikon D90 DSLR. Which shocked even me as I've always been a Canon girl and my current two are Canons.

The bigger one is Powershot S2 IS and the smaller one is a Powershot A570 IS. They are both awesome and the smaller one is really handy to take anywhere and fits easily in a coat pocket. I'd say 70% of my photos are taken with the smaller one.

But I did side by side comparisions of the Canon's EOS Rebel T1i and the D90 , read tons of professional and user reviews and I sort of fell in love with the D90. :P

Thoughts?

That Nikon D90 you're looking at can also take 60 fps full HD 1080p video...you might love that. And if it doesn't already come with an infrared remote control, pick one up for another $15. Great for night shots to eliminate touching and vibrating the camera, self portraits, long exposures, wildlife shots. I just ordered the Nikon remote control and a sturdy tripod last night on Amazon. I'm re-teaching myself photography all over again...my old film SLR died about 15-20 years ago, and until I bought the little Samsung, I hadn't taken pics in all that time. Missed a lot of pics of AJ growing up and some non-repeatable vacations. Now I'm relearning all about existing light and night photography again. Here's a couple of pics I took with the D40 last week in DC, with the camera sitting on a concrete wall:
