Standard HBP review

I saw the Half-Blood Prince movie (twice, actually) and I think it's only right that I should give a review. It will be garbled and slightly immature.

OMG! I forgot to comment on High!Harry. Total win!

Yeah, it would have been nice if there was the same old Tom Riddle. But I have a feeling he got too old. He was a good actor.

Right! "I am not a coward!" Why cut that out?

Luna wouldn't make sense though since she has to be taken, doesn't she? I also hope that in movie 7 they keep as much of Hogwarts away from Harry as possible. I also feel like I've seen pictures from the wedding being filmed? And I mean just because it wasn't talked about doesn't mean it's not going to happen. That's how these movies work, lol.

Luna gets taken like months after the seven potters. But you have a point, they're having two movies of DH they can throw in Bill and Fleur's wedding, whatever. They just have to cast Bill.

I hated Ginny in the books, so I wasn't disappointed by her poor acting in the movie. Because I do absolutely agree, she was terrible... part of me just thought it was the director's choice though; you know, showcase the blandness of a bland character.

I thought Jim Broadbent made a far better Slughorn than the book ever could dream of. Sluggy was pretty much a cartoon character in the book, and he seemed a lot more likable and realistic in the film.

I agree about your Snape comments. It is obvious he's working for Dumbledore, whereas you have to think about it in the book. I think that was a decision made by the director though. I'm fine with it.

Also, LUNA LOVE!!! She should kill Ginny and get with Harry, they ARE the best couple!

Overall I'd give the movie a B+

I don't know, Ginny was underdeveloped in the books but I felt there was some potential there for an actress or a director. She has very little to work with besides chemistry with Harry but that is something. They could at least give her that.

Jim Broadbent really improved Sluggy, I agree.

Harry/Luna FTW.

Very random, but I also was kind of bothered by how small Bonnie Wright's eyes were! Big-eyed girls united! :D

LOL @ your assuming the movie was trying to portray Dumbledore as a "gossipy queen"! That would have been kind of hilarious, I have to admit.

And yeah WTF lack of Neville? I'm guessing that they won't be including his big change in the 7th movie... :/

I found this article with Bonnie Wright where she looks a lot better IMO cause she's wearing eye makeup (this from someone who knows she looks better with makeup but is too lazy to wear it herself.)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1200972/Harry-Potter-star-Bonnie-Wright-rivals-Emma-Watson-poses-magical-fashion-shoot.html

The most disturbing this is that she describes Ginny as a mousey little sister. Who told her Ginny was supposed to mousey? Bland, maybe but she's always described as being pretty and popular post book 5...

"Not nearly enough stuff about the Half-Blood Prince. When Snape dramatically announced it was him I was like "does anyone even care?" Speaking of Snape, cutting out DADA had him portrayed very decently in the film. Props to Alan Rickman's acting as usual, but I thought it was pretty clear that he was under Dumbledore's orders."

Interesting, because I went to see this movie with a bunch of other people who had not read the books and they had the opposite reaction. They 100% though Snape was bad.

Either way you read it though, the tension between "is he good" or "is he bad" was definitely not there. (Which was one of the things that made the wait from HBP to DH so much fun!)

That's really interesting. I always want to know what people who've never read the books think when they see the movies.

Yeah, I got a friend of mine a shirt that had the DH release date and said "Snape: Good or Evil"? Those were some fun, fandom times.

Mainly my friends thought the movie was pretty boring. They like parts, but thought it was long and went nowhere. I understand where they are coming from.

Yeah, that was definitely a good time to be a fan of HP. :) Some fun discussions....I want George to finish ASOIAF, but I enjoy being part of an ongoing fandom! :)
