I saw the Half-Blood Prince movie (twice, actually) and I think it's only right that I should give a review. It will be garbled and slightly immature.
Okay, first of all, I've got to say it. I wish Bonnie Wright was a better actress. I don't think it's completely her fault. She was cast at what, 9? And she didn't receive the amount of acting experience that the main three did still...
She delivered her lines in a really awkward way. I didn't really believe she liked Harry one bit. The scenes between them were cute but she looked like...she was holding back laughter or something. And the fact that Emma Watson is so freaking glamorous really made her look plain. They could have given her, I don't know, mascara or something. Her eyes are really small and red eyelashes are really light. /end shallow. I guess they were trying to paint her as more of the sweet feminine comfort side she showed in the first books than the fiery lioness we see post book 5. I can accept that, but I miss the lioness. It was cute to see her in Quidditch gear, although I don't know why she was standing behind Harry. Since when is she co-captain? The new kissing scene was cute, it had a lot of Harry's wonder at magic in it by being in the room of requirement. Ginny=magic. But...she never really broke up with Dean? She was cute in her sparkily supper party outfit. I liked that they tried to make her more involved in Harry's life, especially about the Half-Blood Prince.
Semi-related. At first I wasn't too thrilled with them changing Tonks saving Harry on the train cause it was her one cool moment but...yaaay Luna! And yay Luna and Harry. If I had never read the books I would totally ship them. In fact, I kind of do. I don't care that she's weird. She's smart and sweet and understanding and has pretty hair. Plus, Evanna Lynch seems engaged in the scene XD. And she's so into Harry.
WTF was up with Harry hitting on the waitress? And wtf with Dumbledore being so interested? That was the first of three scenes showing him interested in the love lives of students. The worst part is, my first thought was that it was them indicating that he's a gossipy queen. Duh, it was just him being wistful or whatever.
Just a little bit too much of Draco and the cabinet, imo. But it made things clearer than they were in the book, the cabinet was a bit confusing. And poor ickle Draco is sad. His eyebrows were really dark and bothering me though...
Not nearly enough stuff about the Half-Blood Prince. When Snape dramatically announced it was him I was like "does anyone even care?" Speaking of Snape, cutting out DADA had him portrayed very decently in the film. Props to Alan Rickman's acting as usual, but I thought it was pretty clear that he was under Dumbledore's orders. Especially when he didn't take Harry with him to Voldemort at the end. I don't think it went down quite like that in the book...someone came running or something, right?
Cormac McLaggen. Who thought to make him so hot? Seriously, you know I live and breathe R/Hr but...wow, girl could have traded up. No, I'm kind of kidding. He was a little skeezy. They should have shown him being more obnoxious though, so we could see why Harry looked the other way when Hermione confunded him.
Hermione's hair got actually poofy again during potions! XD Hermione also made an adorable drunk, hugging Harry and Ron. Her commenting to Ron about snogging was awkward because later he was like "as if." STFU Ron you love it. I was actually really into Hermione and Harry opening up about their love lives. It was surprising, but it was good. They're really best friends, it can't be awkward formal british all the time. Sometimes people have an easier time being open with the opposite sex. It's funny that Harry got more strained with Ron at this point. But hey, they do want to bang each other's sisters. Also, why didn't they mention his jealously about Krum? It explains his behavior a bit.
I love Lavender. That girl was...perfect. I want to hug her. Poor gal.
The big question is, did Hermione like make out with Ron's semi-conscious body?
They recast teen!Tom Riddle. This broke my head a bit, but the kid was great. Extra creepy and slimy and he looked like the little boy. I wish they had the Gaunts though. I also wish a bit more about horcruxes was explained. Maybe at least that they would probably be something he found important. Otherwise what are Harry, Ron and Hermione looking for?
Slughorn was perfect. And you know, I personally think it was wrong to keep the secret of what he told Riddle...but not so bad to tell it. Maybe they painted him better in the movie, but I would have done the same in his place. I don't like straight up lying to children. And he said it was horrible to consider murder. Honestly, Hogwarts should have a psychiatrist and students should be checked regularly, because magic is dangerous in and of itself.
Ron played Quidditch and learned to kick ass! It was ALMOST Weasley Is Our King! Also, apparently Harry and Ron's idea of how to spend a free period is to stand on top of something and laugh at the first years. LOL AWESOME.
I'm glad they added the destruction (to the Burrow, to the great hall, to Hagrid's Hut). It made the war seem more real. The wheat scene was fine. They tried for a power couple thing with Remus, Tonks, Harry and Ginny fighting together. Then Arthur came and ruined it. No, just kidding. I love Arthur. And I love that he was actually helpful to Harry about Draco. Harry should have figured it out when he saw the cabinet though...guess he was thinking too much about snogging Ginny. Also, it's a relief that they just put Remus and Tonks together without making an awkward storyline about it. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU JKR)
I love Dumbledore. When he summoned the fire against the inferi...that was so effing perfect. And he looked so scared drinking the potion. No "I'm with you, Harry." though :(
I really liked McGonnagal in this one. Not only was she badass and hilarious but seeing her try to comfort Harry was so touching...
Raising the wands for Dumbledore's death was moving. I teared up, not gonna lie.
The end, why did Ron sit apart and have nothing to say? Was this supposed to foreshadow his hissy fit in Deathly Hallows? Not even a "I'm with you too, mate." That really bothered me. It was needless.
They didn't have him tell Ginny not to come. Maybe because it's really stupid that he fucking let Hermione and Ron come and not her?
Also, this movie needed more Neville.
And since Bill/Fleur never happened what's gonna happen with the seven potters? Cause Fleur is one of them, right? IS IT GONNA BE LUNA? XD
Saying that it was really a beautiful place was a perfect ending line though. And it was nice to see Fawkes.
Wow, that was long. XD I missed Harry Potter.
