So, a few things. I recently got let go from my job. My boss said it was "nothing I did and that the program was just cut." I'm a little susipcious about this because of the lies from employers, but I suppose it's for the best...if I do actually get off my ass and get a better job. It's rather clear at this point that I need an actual career track. I've been considering several things and yes, I am still making an effort to try with writing. Supposedly I'm going to be filming a version of Orion (my ten-fifteen minute thing with murder and incest, wooo...) so that's at least...something.
Short reviews of a few things I've seen recently to make this post not depressing.
UP-
If you haven't seen this, run, do not walk, to the local theatre. Seriously, a few people I know thought the trailers didn't look very interesting (I'm not exactly sure why) but literally everyone I know who saw it loved it. I cried three times, lol. It's not only a sometimes humorous tale of adventure but a beautifully rendered film about moving on in the face of great loss.
The Hangover-
The way this movie deals with women is laughable. We have a shrew, a damsel in distress and a hooker with a heart of gold. If you can deal with that fact (and I respect why you might not be able to) this is actually a hilarious movie and filled with fun. It's a goofy guy comedy, so you have to like the genre but a particularly funny one.
Public Enemies-
I had high hopes for this movie. Great cast, great story. Unfortunately, it feel really flat. There was little character insight and frankly, I'd rather see Dilinger talking to a psychotic Babyface than half to sit through a half an hour gunfight. It felt like I was watching a history text book. They somehow missed the drama in a real life dramatic story.
Gran Torino (rented)
Excellent. The plot was rather predictable, you can guess it from the trailer and yet I couldn't look away. It had just the right amount of cheese, just the right amount of character. It was truly what you a good old american story to be like. Clint Eastwood at his best.
BONUS TV SHOW TIME
The first season of Spaced (Rajiv has the series)
Simon Pegg, you're my hero.(In a related note, he's almost the only good thing in the new Ice Age movie.) I described to Kim as Family Guy if it was live action, had characters you cared about and was on slightly less crack. Daisy has made my list of female characters who I can actually relate to. (The list includes Liz Lehmon and Lindsey Weir.) I think Tim and Daisy are Rajiv and I if we were just friends. I'm surprised more people don't seem to know about this series. It's gold. Mike dancing to the A-Team theme at the club had me in stitches.
