'Prudie's defense of rape culture' or 'I will never read Slate again'

Jan 31, 2012 19:26

Prudie has a weekly advice column/live chat in Slate magazine and today, a woman's friend wrote in and said she doubted her friend had been raped. The rest is...not good. A WORLD of not good.

Nastiness and possible triggering )

I just... it's so fucking textbook victim blaming. It's not even ORIGINAL idiocy.

Yep. It's sickening, for realz. Like, I just can't even put into words how enraged and sickened and shaken I am because this is MAINSTREAM and LIBERAL media. These people are supposed to be advocates. And rape culture is so endemic that no one even questions it.

I also like how she touts her opinion as "controversial". That's basically what assholes always say--"I'm going to say something there's no defense for but hey, I'm just being controversial and edgy. It isn't really sexist/racist/assholish."

GRRR!

It's on Slate's FB page too. The comments are even more disgusting.
