(pretending to be) working from home

I work from home three days a week this semester. And by "work from home" I mean I get up a little before 10 o'clock, have a leisurely breakfast while I watch The View, work on the draft of my dissertation prospectus (that was due LAST MONTH, really) for a couple of hours, watch one of my old soap operas that I've been sucked back into (*shakes ( Read more... )

It's SO GOOD to hear that I'm not the only one, you have no idea.

I'm working at it steadily, but there are a few sections that I just keep avoiding, and I don't know if it's because they're actually hard or I'm just avoiding getting done and facing my oral defense.

Even worse: I still haven't bothered to fill out my committee. I've got 4 out of 5, but I'm waffling on the last one.

I think this kind of delaying is completely normal in grad school, though. What's holding you back?

Partly it's time. I have a part time job that has nothing to do with the thesis, and coming home from work just to work MORE is just hard. But I'm also avoiding certain things that need doing, the prospectus in particular. I'm pretty good about doing the actual research, but that's about it. I guess I'm too afraid of doing a bad job, you know?

but you ARE working on your thesis among it all! that's probably better than I'd do! nice to see you've had a nice day, let's hope the productivity kicks in unexpectedly :)
