(pretending to be) working from home

Oct 28, 2010 14:15

I work from home three days a week this semester. And by "work from home" I mean I get up a little before 10 o'clock, have a leisurely breakfast while I watch The View, work on the draft of my dissertation prospectus (that was due LAST MONTH, really) for a couple of hours, watch one of my old soap operas that I've been sucked back into (*shakes fist at OLTL*) while I eat lunch and chastise myself for not working. Then I poke at the prospectus draft for another hour or two...or until I get annoyed with it and turn on the TV to watch Wendy Williams or The Doctors. By four o'clock, I get serious about working again...unless something scandalous is happening on Oprah.

I obviously need more self-discipline. Or any, really.

And, to think, I committed myself to writing 500 words a day next month. *sigh*

Today has been a good but utterly unproductive day. I got up late and had a long early lunch at a local meat-and-three with my best friend, then we had coffee at a cute new coffee shop, where we chatted and knitted for a while. I'd really like to just keep knitting and watch some TV, but I'm going to make myself work on this one hairy paragraph I've been avoiding because I need to look up a couple of sources to quote.

So this is me: loafing on the couch, reading about American literary Naturalism in preparation for making some sweeping statements about modern narrative forms.

If you catch me commenting here or lurking in your journal, smack my hand, mkay?

Same goes for tonight, when I need to write my Mikey/Pete happyfic challenge entry. Which is outlined, such as it requires one, but I'm still a little weird about writing. Wish me luck.
