mocking my students, because I'm a bad person (and they deserve it?)

I assign a three page compare/contrast essay to my (college) sophomores. The subject doesn't even matter, because I get a title like this for one of them:

They Are Similar Then You ThinkSrsly ( Read more... )

teaching, we hates students

I--

I might not have caught it, at first. But eventually, yes. Especially since then/than give me hives, and I probably would have double and triple-checked I was using the right one.

Actually, the then/than thing is understandable, whether it's a typo or she's one of those people (many of whom are perfectly intelligent, like you) who get them confused.

It's the leaving out the word 'more' that annoys me.

...you know what's really sad? I automatically inserted 'more' into there to make it correct.

Man. I've been on the internet for too long.

Oh, the internets. They've totally made me less apt to notice vaguely bad writing. You know, wordy and passive voice-y and whatnot. But there are some things that look boneheaded even in chat or on LJ, and for them, I am merciless. :)

They are similar, then you think Ds for everyone!

I thought maybe the kid was trying to get philosophical and say They are similar, but then again... :insert some sort of shrugging motion: Y/N?

I dunno. Crazy college kids. I just can't relate to them anymore. *sigh* :)

Gah. College kids and their very vague statements about literature. Most of these papers might as well start with "In the course of human events..." for all they try to tell me about mankind and the great history of art and shit instead of, I don't know, starting with modernism and the prompt.

Of course, some of those papers tell me things like 1) modernists liked to write, 2) they liked to write about the world, 3) they wrote in ways that were different from each other...

*headdesk*

Heeheee! The vaguer the statements, the harder to fail them methinks their motives are.

modernists liked to write
Heh, so do graphomaniacs.

Oh, I'm going to hell aren't I? The hell where no one uses proper grammar, right?

ETA: Jesus, I had to edit this twice.

Maybe there should be a comma in there.

They Are Similar, Then You Think

It's a sequence of events! Or something. :P

Okay, I'm really stretching it, but take that original title and put a comma in it. As in, they are similar, then you think (about it and realize they're not). Yeah, I know that's not what's on the paper. I just like being a smart ass. :P
