I assign a three page compare/contrast essay to my (college) sophomores. The subject doesn't even matter, because I get a title like this for one of them:

Oh, you know that's all shades of wrong.
Are they even trying?
You should put that on the notes, "If I tried to grade this, you would have gotten a better grade, it's SIMILAR to you not even trying to write it."

So, what I want to know: can I skip reading this paper and give it a D? Ethically? Pls?
No. You can skip reading this paper and give it an F, ethically. Best not to mollycoddle the incompetent, I say. ;)
