BSG 3.17-3.20; or, why I have a new favorite show

My scatter-brained, capslock-ridden, ridiculously long reactions to Battlestar Galactica 3.17-3.20 (the season finale). Major spoilers, obviously.

You really are too funny! Look who's a silly, silly fangirl now!

Since we talked about most of this last night, I will spare you a long (Gods, it would be 2-3 posts long) reply/reaction to your squeeing. But, I will be using some of our discussion for my Lee meta, and I might lift some direct quotes from you. :)

Oh, Lee. *pets precious Lee*

I am so glad that you are oficially hooked on this show. I think I just may have turned my sister.

Okay, I always loved Lee. I did. Maybe he wasn't at the top of my list for a while, but I always genuinely liked him.

me too. I always liked him. I did sort of hate his backstory/black market affair. the fact that he left his pregnant girlfriend then practically wanted to adopt this new family and he was abused by his mom. It was all these little throwaway details which I feel don't really add up to his character. I believe his relationship with his dad is what makes him who he is today and that should be the focus of his backstory plotlines.

Season 2.5 Lee was the hardest to watch. He cheated death in the blackbird and couldn't find understanding with much of anyone. He seemed the least like a CAG and a military man. Kara was off in her own Anders angst world so his one opportunity with her was less than uplifting. He got shot by her too and then fell into the consolation prize arms of Dee.

but I think it took losing Kara before he ( ... )

But he's amazing once he steps into a viper. Like it's second nature. I honestly believe that flying is still in his blood.

No doubt. It's not the flying, it's the military complex and especially military leadership that I don't think he's suited for. Apollo--especially with Starkbuck--is a kick-ass pilot, and I'd hate to see Lee lose that side of himself. I think that was part of the problem with season 2.5 and 3.0--Lee was either always in the CIC or too fat to do anything but frown at everybody. :)

I liked some of the basestar scenes, too...once they got past just shots of Baltar laying around. I really kind of adored his wacked-out love triangle with Six and Three, because of all the Final Five stuff. And I'm always excited to learn more about the Cylons.

I wasn't spoiled for Kara coming back either, so that was the perfect moment to end the season on. Of course, I was still reeling from Col. Tigh being a Cylon, so I might have to rewatch it and properly enjoy it. :)

Only four of the final five were actually listed, Sam, Tigh, Tory, and Chief, so it's possible that Laura is still Model One or something. Time shall tell.

I am so giddy about the people who wound up being Cylons, I can't even tell you. Just think about their positions in the resistance and, oh my God, I am geeking out like the biggest philosophy of mind nerd in the world.

Heh, the last time you made a BSG post I was pretty much vibrating with spoilers, because I love Lee SO HARD for those last two episodes. Because the system matters, and people do have rights that boil down to more than how much you like them.

Lee/Sam FTW! It cannot be said enough.

I don't think it's Roslin anymore, not with Tory as a Cylon. Of course, with Col. Tigh as a Cylon, too, that make me think it won't be Bill Adama. But I could be wrong. Maybe it really is Baltar. *snorts*

I was expecting to be disturbed or bothered by who the Cylons were (I knew it was coming, just not who; I also knew the big Starbuck spoiler...damn my sister). I didn't expect to be so excited. Two of my earnest bad-ass resistance boys and the one-eyed drunk and Roslin's aide? I can't wait to see what they do and what they turn out to mean in the grand scheme of things.

LEE! Yeah, I do officially love him again, so much. The funny thing is, I was happy with him because he was defending Gaius, but I'm not sure I believed everything he said until he said it. Then I was like--wait a minute: I've been wanting to defend Gaius just because I like him. :) I love that Lee's idealism--which I thought I perfectly understood--still has things to say to me. Bless his little heart.

But I worry about him going off to follow angel ( ... )

I just want to state for the record that fandom's complete lack of interest in 'I'm hearing music, I need to convince myself that I'm still human, what's more human than fucking?' Sam is MADE OF FAIL.

I'm always reading your entries and I'm such a happy girl now that you've fallen in love with this great show... ;) Loved your reviews, they were gorgeous.
There is one Lee/Sam community: http://community.livejournal.com/anders_lee/
Are you really going to write some BSG fics? Can't wait!!! :)

Anders icon, need. And you! You! This entry is really old and I'm not making sentences. From my brain to your journal entry. I agree with (almost) every single thing you've said here. (I still love Gaeta, hahah)

*basks*

I am not crazy. I have seen so few people who think like this about the show and especially Lee and Gaius.

So yeah, just thought I'd comment to say, So. Much. Love.

♥!

I think we're somewhat lone wolves in our thoughts about Lee. I see so much Lee-hate and I guess I just don't see where's it's coming from. Especially after those final two eps. I really do believe, like you said, that Lee just does what he thinks is ultimately the right, if not easy, thing to do.

Sure, Baltar is a bad guy (whom I love!!), but he was a bad guy being tried for something that all other cooperators had been given pardons for. And that's pretty much the bottom line. One of those slippery slope kind of deals. Lee, did actually do the right thing, at the end of the day. And I frakking love him for it. And I loved his speech on the stand. And ah, yes, yes yes. I agree with everything you've said.

And yay! For forgiving Gaeta! Poor broken-down Gaeta. Hehe.

Just the fact that you can like, Lee, Anders, and Leoben all in the same post makes me squee.
