BSG 3.17-3.20; or, why I have a new favorite show

My scatter-brained, capslock-ridden, ridiculously long reactions to Battlestar Galactica 3.17-3.20 (the season finale). Major spoilers, obviously.

I am so glad that you are oficially hooked on this show. I think I just may have turned my sister.

Okay, I always loved Lee. I did. Maybe he wasn't at the top of my list for a while, but I always genuinely liked him.

me too. I always liked him. I did sort of hate his backstory/black market affair. the fact that he left his pregnant girlfriend then practically wanted to adopt this new family and he was abused by his mom. It was all these little throwaway details which I feel don't really add up to his character. I believe his relationship with his dad is what makes him who he is today and that should be the focus of his backstory plotlines.

Season 2.5 Lee was the hardest to watch. He cheated death in the blackbird and couldn't find understanding with much of anyone. He seemed the least like a CAG and a military man. Kara was off in her own Anders angst world so his one opportunity with her was less than uplifting. He got shot by her too and then fell into the consolation prize arms of Dee.

but I think it took losing Kara before he finally hit bottom, before everything was stripped away and he had to figure out how to rebuild Lee from scratch. So what does he do?

He becomes a lawyer.

I thinks it's funny that Lee is not really a military man and you really see him come alive while researching law. But he's amazing once he steps into a viper. Like it's second nature. I honestly believe that flying is still in his blood.

And I still love Baltar, even if he's a solipsistic nutcase

oh Baltar, how I can't help but like you. Some of my favorite episodes were the Baltar ones of season 3. Was I the only one who liked all the cylon basestar scenes. It was by far BSG's most scifi moments and I loved it.

Okay, so…KARA!!!

I thought it was beautiful. I don't know what else to say. It was pretty perfect, actually. I cried and cried.

I was so freaking pissed. I accidently spoiled myself for Kara's death. It was so painful to watch Maelstrom that I never actually got through it. I then boycotted the end of season 3. Weeks after tghe finale aired I finally sat down to watch the end and of course was totally blown away that she came back. I was jumping up and down in glee. It was awesome since I wasn't spoiled for that at all. the final four were awesome too because I wasn't spoiled for that either. So all I could think of was "HOLY SHIT." so cool.

And I might also possibly think Leoben/Kara is hot, in a dirty, dirty sort of way

yes, yes, yes!!! It is very dirty and very hot and their chemistry sometimes rivals Kara/Lee. This is what I lovingly refer to as my OTP of doom and is the centerpiece of my much adored header. (I love yours by the way.)

I've cut Gaeta out of my heart

Definitely yes. I liked him up untill he outright lied on the stand. then I lost all respect for him. What happened to your idealism Felix. Your wide eyed innocence was what made me love you in the first place.

In short, I love this show. I do. I'm so enthralled by both the political and spiritual explorations it undertakes, made all the more better by characters I love. I plan much fanfic over the next few months

Oh yay!! I'm so excited for you. BSG is wonderful and so are all the people in the bsg livejournal community. I can't wait to read your stories. Now I just have to stop being lazy and finish my own. lol :)

No doubt. It's not the flying, it's the military complex and especially military leadership that I don't think he's suited for. Apollo--especially with Starkbuck--is a kick-ass pilot, and I'd hate to see Lee lose that side of himself. I think that was part of the problem with season 2.5 and 3.0--Lee was either always in the CIC or too fat to do anything but frown at everybody. :)

I liked some of the basestar scenes, too...once they got past just shots of Baltar laying around. I really kind of adored his wacked-out love triangle with Six and Three, because of all the Final Five stuff. And I'm always excited to learn more about the Cylons.

I wasn't spoiled for Kara coming back either, so that was the perfect moment to end the season on. Of course, I was still reeling from Col. Tigh being a Cylon, so I might have to rewatch it and properly enjoy it. :)
