I got some interesting comments about
Boo at the Zoo and
parties in general, which in the interest of findability I will summarize here.
1. Boo at the Zoo
Our contributors in this section are all repeat offenders, with
Davis,
Laura & Astrid all making additional appearances here.
Davis
I LOVED Boo at the Zoo - I thought they channeled our mischievous youth into something really fun and entertaining, and we were definitely like, right there in the community.
Astrid
I will always remember Tony on the boat, operating the 'cannon.' Argh! ☠🏴☠️🦜
Laura
This was super fun, the pirate 🏴☠️ boat at Boo at the Zoo! I somehow got got to go. Ship seemed almost half sunk when we arrived. We had fun, entertained the crowds, and even more ourselves! I almost fell right off the boat into the water. One brother reached out his hand and saved me from falling off the boat into the cold water. A pirate save of one of the pirate wenches indeed. Pirate eye patches emerged at a number of brother weddings for years to come.
2. Blackout / Parties
We've got three new contributors here, namely:
- Wayne, one of the younger brothers when I was there. He ended up going to law school and lives in Chicago, where I've visited him many times.
- My sister,
tigerlily_blue, who was started college at CWRU my first senior year.
- Kellie, who was my sister's college roommate and all-time great friend.
Wayne
It may have been a Blackout event around 2001 where K Dunc and I loaded his station wagon with many cases of High Life, thanks to my fake ID furnished by a "friend". We were worried the shocks would go.
Kellie
I always had a lot of fun at Phi Kap parties! Silly dancing and a good vibe.
My Sister responding to Kellie
and also 100% always a safe haven for drunken ladies.
That last point was hardly a guarantee on a college campus, and as depressing as it is that this is something to brag about, it was probably our finest work as a fraternity. I myself slept on my
terrible green loveseat a few times when girls of my acquaintance were passed out in my bed, and at the end of the our parties we often had an official relay of brothers walking girls home to their dorms. Given the muggings that had
happened in our neighborhood I'm not sure the protection offered would have proved helpful against street crime, but it may have helped deter a drunken asshole or two.
