Pumpkin Patches and Sitting

I have a lot of time off that I saved in the hopes that we'd be able to travel a bit more, but since the pandemic hasn't actually died down any, I've started tacking days on to my weekends. This meant that I had last Monday off on a beautiful October day. In M's mind, this clearly meant that we needed to find a pumpkin patch. This was an experience that I don't believe I had previously encountered.

We ended up driving west quite a bit to Jason's Pumpkin Patch in Oak Harbor. This marked the farthest point west that I've traveled since the start of the pandemic, and the farthest point west that Birdie has ever been, surpassing her two trips to Fremont when M and I got vaccinated.

Going on a Monday was a good call, as it wasn't very crowded and we had plenty of room to move around and avoid people. The primary purpose of our trip was for M to take all the adorable photos of Birdie, and this mission was accomplished. There were pictures of her propped up between pumpkins. There were pictures of her in the back of truck filled with pumpkins. There were several murals where you can stick your head through a hole to insert yourself in the picture; she got her picture taken in several of those. I also can't forget the "Me holding Birdie by a height chart" and "M holding Birdie by the largest pumpkin on display" photos.

Birdie is obviously not old enough for most of the other attractions (corn mazes, pedal go-karts, a playground) to be appealing, although she did stare at the various farm animals with some interest. Once M's desire for adorable photos was temporarily satiated, she bought herself two pumpkins for carving and an assortment of decorative gourds. It was close to sunset, so we headed home.

For the curious - Birdie's farthest points right now:
- North: probably the park by the lake or more likely some point on the main road along the lake.
- South: Grandma's house near Columbus.
- East: The I-271/Chagrin exchange on the way to my cousin Deanne's house.
- West: Jason's Pumpkin Patch.

Our other recent baby news is another milestone in physical mobility. Birdie has been sitting since mid-September, but only if she was placed upright. She has been crawling since earlier this month. On Tuesday, she combined the two skill sets and hauled herself off the ground into a sitting position several times. She is also crawling with significantly more speed and direction. She's on the verge of being even more exhausting!
