Further Proof Sharon Jones is awesome!
Over the past two years I have evangelized on behalf of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings repeatedly. There was the brief review I did of the first time I saw her. I pushed her second show hard, and then a few weeks later I made a money-back guarantee for the same show, and a followup review. When she came around for New Year's this year I announced it. The only reason there wasn't a review this time around was because tigerlily_blue beat me to it.
Over time I have convinced BethXC, pussygalore66, xhollydayx, tigerlily_blue, djvitruvius and JenW to attend shows. All of them thought she was good, if not great.
A few weeks before the NYE show xhollydayx were hanging out with some people prior to a concert and when the subject of NYE came up we mentioned Sharon's gig on 12/29 to Sara and Jen, both friends of my friend Paul. Jen said it sounded good but she was going to be in Chicago. I told her Sharon would be in Chicago on 12/31, she promised to check it out, and I forgot about it. Then today I got this email from Sara.
I just wanted to thank you for pointing Jen and me in the right musical direction for our New Year's Eve ... I drove out to Chicago to see Jen and we partied it up NYE to the funk sensation that is Sharon Jones. The concert was AMAZING!! That night definitely landed itself at the top of my favorite NYE nights list. Jen and I figure we owe you at least a spa weekend or some other star treatment for cluing us into Ms. Jones ... well, maybe some day in the future when it's actually more possible for us :)

The defense rests. Get your ass to her show the next time she comes around! In her honor, Miss Sharon Jones gets her very own tag, the first band to be so honored :-)
On an unrelated note, I really need to go back and tag my entries from 2003 to 2005. It took me forever to find anything.
