College is going all right, although the lack of one of our teachers doesn't help. She's not around and noone seems to know why. Even the technicians haven't been told! I hope she's okay

Pretty spoonyspoonyspoons :) I like the idea of having a row of spoons hung up in the kitchen somewhere, but I think our current kitchen is rather lacking in space.
Re: missing teacher. This may sound stupid, but if she teaches you directly speak to your course leader or personal tutor or course office and ask if they know when she'll be back. If she's teaching a lot of students then they'll probably know what's going on anyway, but it's worth mentioning to them.
Why do I say all this? Well, in my final year my tutor for my dissertation-equivalent course (which had six people on it) went AWOL for about a month before I spoke to my personal tutor about it, whereupon I found out that admin etc. basically didn't even know he hadn't been coming in! Now, there's a whole story behind that which *might* explain why they didn't know, but it's left me rather wary of any teacher taking unplanned absence without telling us what's happening :)
If she's not back next week I'll talk to someone higher up, since the technician pretty much confirmed she's not going to be back this week.
One of the rumours I heard was that the second or third year had a petition to get her replaced (!) and the other of the years had a petition to keep her, so maybe it's to do with that. It's a bit worrying, anyway.
Blimey, that's nasty - the sort of thing that would make you want to take time off :\ I remember one of my favourite school teachers had a similar thing, where she took a bit of time off (I think it was when her mum died) and her horrible reggie class petitioned to keep their temp replacement reggie teacher for good :( (erm, did you have reggie classes? Not sure what else they're called - classes you're put in first thing in the morning to take the register etc.)
Not sure what's with all the school memories I'm getting today :)
Edith P.S. Summat else I learned since leaving uni: a lot of those rumours are actually true. I had a lot of So'ton rumours confirmed recently, as one of my current coursemates was studying for a PhD in my undergraduate department while I was there, so he got more reliable info than me ;)
I'm not sure. Well, that's not entirely true, I -know- I'm going to be in London next Thursday but that's on a college study trip thing so it doesn't count. I'm feeling the pain of no money at the moment, so it might be a while before I can justify going anywhere, argh and sob.
I am easily persuaded, though, that going out is good for me. ;)

If I had money to spend, I would demand spoonmongery.

Spoonmongery is a good word. I will utilise it often!
