I love how you manage to paint her growing friendship/relationship with Clint, and her sense of self, through snapshots on her birthday -- and I really love how you treat Pepper's suspicion of her, respecting it without having it skew her basic kindness and observ...ingness? (that's a word I promise) (It makes me sad, but at the same time I get why Pepper's upset. Finding out your probably friend-sidekick is someone else entirely has got to be harsh.)
Also thank you for the really detailed warnings! That might be silly, but it pleased me & made me feel safer reading when I hit the material (& I was fine) -- so, thank you.

And her confusion, her difficulty with making decisions based on that self, her self, how she's capable and whole but lost in such a seemingly impossible way. I absolutely love that piece of characterization.
The ballet, of course, and Clint's tears and hers but especially Pepper, Pepper who holds her like she held her kitten, not quite at arm's length, who protects her in a way like Clint protects hers, the things she chooses (and how much more important those are, knowing she struggles with decision), who does it because she's a good person and she ( ... )

That is such a beautiful way to spin that all out and explain it! Thank you! ::starry eyes:: I am all about the power of being loved because of, instead of in spite of, yourself. That's a huge thing for me, and you've explained it so perfectly here!

That is... it's the core of Natasha for me. :D
