I adore my Brother. I've had it for nearly 20 years and it's still going strong. It's portable, I can set it up on a coffee table and sit on the floor to use it (knees work on foot pedals, isn't that neat?), and it stores in a relatively small area. If only the fabric took up as little room.
Pfaff and Brother are my fave sewing machines (table, industrial heavy), we have a small Singer and Pfaff at home... not sure which i prefer, cuz i can't go back from the heavy duty ones
I have a refurb Brother CE-550PRW, and love it to death. I used to use an ancient Singer, too- this one you can get cheap, it has 50 different stitches, runs like a dream most of the time, and you can do overlocking and applique edging with it. It does come with a bunch of different feet, and the threading and bobbin are ridiculously easy. I threw the timing off doing some overlocking on a much too thick project, so YMMV.
Thanks for all the suggestions you guys! I've found a couple that I think might work, now I just need to get one of my friends to buy it for me for Christmas :] if only all my fabrics could take up as little room as the sewing machine!
I have some sewing maschines but one of my favorite is Smart by Pfaff 200c. It comes with a lot of stitches and it sews better than my 3 times more expensive Brother maschine ;-) And it s easy to find feets and stuff for it.
