Adult Video Store salesperson, but location is irrelevant this time, this was just fucked up:
I have a new coworker who is Asian. One of our regular renters came in to return movies, saw "Bob", and motioned him to come to the counter. He says to him "Hey, I heard your people have a new National Anthem" then pulls out his phone and makes it play "I Feel The Earth Move Under My Feet". Seriously. I turned to him and told him to get out now. He tried to argue, stuck it out, and refused to leave, so I called the police and had him trespassed (one warning is all that's needed). He's no longer welcome as far as I'm concerned.
First off, "Bob" is Korean, so ethnicity fail to start. I can't always pick up on different subtleties between nationalities, but I also don't ASSume either.
Even Bigger, though, is the MASSIVE Sensitivity Fail. What if he was Japanese, scared for friends/family, waiting for a body ID, etc.
Apologies for any errors, this happened minutes ago and I'm still seeing red...
EDIT:
A commenter asked and I figured others must be wondering, Bob just walked away, he didn't have any family personally affected but the vile intent of that comment pissed him off and he was about to flip if he didn't walk away. His girlfriend had just received good news, that her family was okay and her childhood home was miraculously spared, which probably kept him cooled down as well.
