[Walking up behind Abel, he was only able to see he had a box and not what was inside it yet... if it had been anything physical at all, Cain's had just contained a note and then a rush of sensation.]
[he lifts his head up, startled by the sudden voice behind him -- having been thoroughly distracted by the contents of the box, he hadn't even heard him coming.
Abel is quick to swipe a hand over his eyes under his glasses. he was totally NOT being a woobie what are you talking about, his smile quick and hastily pasted.]
--A... ah, Cain...
[his eyes shift back to the box, and he gives a little nod... before nudging it toward him. inside were the articles of clothing and his badge, boots... all the dressings.]
[his fingers are tight around that rosary as if he had no intention of easing up his hold on it ever again, letting Cain look over the other contents absently.]
I'm extremely glad for that, Cain. Really.
[sob. he sits back on his haunches with a little sigh, but it's a contented one. this... he needed this, and the chain is going up and over his neck to let the beloved token rest where it belonged.]
...It's strange, I know. I never would've seen myself working for the likes of the Vatican back then, either. Probably the furthest thing from probable, right?
[Stranger than strange; and if he hadn't met Miss Esther, he never would have believed it ever. His brother a priest... all part of 'bettering himself' so he could return to Cain?]
Mine was empty... sort of, I think it made me into a clone again.
[he tucks some blonde behind an ear fondly, before picking the box up and finding his feet. Lilith... she was with him again, even if he should know better than to think she'd ever left.]
[ah. that seems... like a strange question, though he supposes it shouldn't be-- he gives Cain a curious look]
I guess I've gotten fond of it, for sure... even if I wasn't all too confident when I got into this mess, you know...!
But I've met some amazing people and wonderful friends... helped people in ways I never could've without it. A priest can go places a civilian can't without being too terribly assuming, hm? They're more likely to trust the cross and turn to you for help...
[Ah. He feels a little prick of deflation inside at those words, it was... a confirmation that his brother wasn't being completely honest with him. He had said he had only left Cain's ill and injured side to make himself a 'better man'.
Yet he wasn't striving to get back to him. He had settled, he had got himself a life with a job, with friends. Why..? He still doesn't understand how in any future, his brother wouldn't be where he belonged - by his side.]
I'm really glad. See, I told you that making friends was more fun than you thought.
[Of course it's... the most likely option, logically, but Cain will not let himself even think it. If only because there's a part of him that knows he would never be able to survive a day without Abel, let alone go on and live a happy and fulfilling life... it would hurt to admit the opposite wasn't true.]
A-ah. I better not talk about a lady's age, Cain, that... would be bad for my health if she ever decided to show up in this godforsaken place one day... Lord knows she's given me the death glare for less...
You can tell me! If she was my age when you met, how long have you known her for?
[Looking for confirmation, perhaps. Surely if he was still-- Abel wouldn't leave for more than a few months, and even that was stretching it a little.]
[he knows -- he's not that dumb, after all... and hence the evasion as he chuckles and sets the box at the end of the bed.
...and then just sort of... stands there a long moment, before tilting his eyes to his brother... looking a little more tired than he was before.]
You're trying to figure out how long we've been apart, if I've made friends with the Terrans. My job, and my life in Rome... you don't understand. It doesn't make sense to you.
You want me to be honest, Cain, but you're hardly forthcoming either.
You got one too?

A care package, I guess... you got something?

Halloween already came and went.
[He's not REALLY a priest, is he?]

[the smile dissolves at his lips -- but not out of any negative emotion, and simply in surprise. there is no outward change, of course, but...
he reaches out and ruffles his twin's hair softly.]
How do you feel about it?

[Better, if he was honest. It gave him back a sense of security, a sensation of being advanced, not that he would ever admit that aloud.]

[He hadn't missed the incredibly fond looks his brother had given his uniform and rosary.]
You really like being a priest, don't you?

he gives a chuckle, gesturing for Cain to follow as he goes for the bedroom to put these things away.]
I think Caterina would be particularly fond of you... She was just a little older than you are right now when we met!

How old is she now?
