Check out naturallycurly.com for pictures. The problem with bringing pictures is that cutting curly hair requires tecnhique that some people just don't have. That website also has a directory of salons who specialize in burly hair.
OR you could get on your local craigslist.org and ask if anyone in your area who has curly hair can reccomend an affordable hairdresser who can just look at you and say "THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED!"
Personally, I have the same sort of hair as you (a little curly, a little wavy, a little frizzy, and way flat/straight at the crown) and my only solution seems to be curring it short. I had hair like Shirley Temple when I was little and as I grew my hair out (and the texture changed with age) it totally changed and the only thing I could figure is that the weight at the ends was pulling the curl out. It was sort of true. Your face is a nice shape and if you felt comfortable with the idea, you could definitely pull off a shorter style.
you might be a hippie and that's cool sorry no help with the hair, as i don't like hairstylists all that much. It's really hard to show someone a picture of what you want b/c you may not have the same natural texture as the person in the picture and the cut will end up different.
Layers can be a bit dangerous if you're wanting to avoid the puffy look with your hair as layers most of the time make your hair go a bit spherical. I suggest you get it cut a bit shorter because it'll soften the curls a bit and it'll balance out the weight of your hair. (Also, if you've straightened your hair a lot it'll be best to get rid of all that damaged hair) =)
well, it's not even the puffy look I am trying to avoid, I am trying to avoid the triangular look (flat on top, curly curly on the bottom [and frizzy])
i'd say get atleast a few inches off to clean it up, and looots of layers. long layers, but also really short ones all around the crown of your head, that shapes curly hair much nicer, so you don't get the triangle look. i think your hair will look fab!
