Manx History Project, and a wedding anniversary.

What have I been doing these past few days?

On Tuesday my sister and I went to an event at Cregneash - it was in one of the small cottages and limited to 15 people so I was glad to have been able to get tickets. It sounds very simple, and was; Jude, the collections manager, had chosen a number of short clips about farming from the sound ( Read more... )

It's hard to believe that summer is nearly over. It seems like it flew!

It really does seem to have flown by - the evenings are drawing in already, although we should get about another month of pleasantly sunny weather.

I haven't really started seeing it at night yet, but with our fires, everything is weird.

Sounds like a fun couple of days!
Congratulations to the happy couple - who'd have thought that a year has gone by already!

They have been nice days :)

It just really occurred to me that it was a hole year about a week ago!

I do think you have to be careful downsizing - you don’t want to loose too many things (especially beloved furniture). We lost the equivalent of one room and the garage (which I do miss!).

I think they will have to completely rethink their furniture - their current house is a 3 story Victorian Terrace with storage in the basement and a garage. The new one is a 2 bedroom bungalow with a small sitting room, a conservatory about the size of ours, and a kitchen with room for a table and chairs.

It does have a medium sized garage, and a nice sized garden (they only have a tiny patch at the front in the current house and a small yard that is just big enough to put the bin in at their current one). I think the garden really attracted my sister - that and the fact that it won't be easy for lots of extended family to land on them!

'Why would that gentleman say they hung onto all their oil lamps even when they got electric lighting?'

In case of loss of power? Seems like a sensible plan.

Happy Anniversary to D-d and her NYM!!! Hope they have a wonderful day and a safe and healthy year, and many many years to come!

I still have a volume of poetry that first husband and I got for our paper anniversary: Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Delightful!

Definitely loss of power - he farmed land next to the farm of my great uncle and I could confirm that right up to the 1990s the power supply could be very temperamental in the winter!

What a good gift - the selection of paper goods was my mother's usual gift for a 1st anniversary, but a book would have been a lovely idea.

I will pass on your good wishes.
