Weekly View from the Window Post.

Today we have been waiting for the rain. It has been cooler, only 18C or so, and overcast all day, as you will see from the pictures. There has been a thunderstorm in the south of the island; a lightning strike set a house roof on fire - which is very, very, rare. But here the only precipitation was literally 15 tiny damp marks on the rear window ( Read more... )

You’ve had far more sunshine than we have. My grass is positively green. Last year it was straw ….

I remember that last year you had days and days and even weeks of sunshine - and we had rain almost every day. One summer we will get the same weather :)

We did have rain last night for about an hour - good rain, the gentle sort that soaks into dry ground rather than running off. We are expecting 'occasional heavy showers and a fresh breeze in places' for today - I can almost hear the grass growing!

All the lawns at my side of the country are looking brown and sparse too.

About 2 minutes ago the heavens opened - it is so dark I might need the light on - I think by Friday my grass might be looking quite green here!

Do you know the exact name of the more pinkish less red rose? Because those blooms were extremely beautiful and I feel tempted to buy one! My first thought when you talked about rain was 'please keep it to the island, we don't need more of it', because that's the weather which is heading in our direction. And then we'll be down to twenty, and that's been our summer...

Sadly I don't know what that one is, as it was already well established when we moved into this house. Which is a shame as it is not only beautiful, but also well scented.

We'll be happy to keep the rain for a while as we have had very little. We had about an hour of soft rain over night so hopefully the heavier stuff we have just at the minute will be able to soak in rather than run off.

I love the way your garden is always changing, yet always lovely.

It is proving to be very interesting to record the way it is always changing - I think it might be useful record for next year, and further on, even.

Isn't it gorgeous! It has been here longer than we have, so I have no idea what sort it is, although quite a few friends who have seen it would really like to know.
